Since there is a downloading poll, I figured I'd start an ownership poll.

So, how many ACTUAL (this is not counting downloaded movies) in cases non-pirated DVD movies do you own?

Are you a casual watcher that isn't bothered too much with owning?

Or are you an Uber Collector that is trying to overcompensate with their collection?

*this is my first ever poll so hopefully it won't suck*

Personally I have very few. Haven't fully broken away from VHS yet :)

The two friends I live with have a boat-load though, all of which I'm welcome to watch. So that works out pretty well for me! Same with CD's, I have around 600, these guys have got over 2000.

They must have at least 200 DVDs. Certainly more than I'm prepared to count and give an exact answer for!

lol ... i sat here counting ours ... how sad is that

i was hoping to be an UBER collector (since it is my poll) but fell sadly short at the 315 mark. :)

Me and the lady own 9, the girls maybe a dozen plus loads of tapes.

I still don't get why people want to own them, seen it, might be nice to see it again in a couple of years.

Children like to watch programs over and again, part of their reinforced learning behaviour, but why adults?

um ... i love watching movies more than once. you get more nuances out of them (depending on the movie) and pick up on things you never noticed before. it's different if you are watching the same movie ad nauseum for days and days and days ... but if you are occasionally enjoying a movie that you have watched before, what's wrong with that?

also there are a lot more to DVD's than just the movie nowdays. you get tons of extras (unless the DVD is the 'cheap' version) that tells you all about how the movie was made how special effects were done, etc.

for instance did you know the texture effects on 'Davey Jones' skin from Pirates 2 was a scanned used polystyrene cup stained with coffee?

chuckles, sorry again ! weren't meant to be a put down, just declaring my heathen ignorence. Polystyrene and coffee eh, will remember that when I watch it now. :)

I'm a beginning collector. I have about 30 DVDS, about 15 of them being Manga/Anime.

15:&

I haven't been DVD capable for long, and got loads of VHS tapes. Been downloading films for a few years and that habit combined with being quite poor a lot of the time means I rarely pay - unless it's something I want in pristine DVD9 quality like Stanley Kubrick films, or something I really want to see but can't download it...

my hubby has collected movies for ages. before i met him (3 years ago) i only had about 15 movies myself. but ... well ... adding on his massive collection since it's communcal property now is the only reason i have a lot. :)

i didn't know there were so many people that hadn't switched from VHS. guess this is why they still sell well at bootsales for 50p each. :)

Unfortunately once you've got used to DVD you realise just how sucky VHS quality is...

We still have a box of VHS tapes in our back room ... my husband didn't want to part with them because he still loves the movies and doesn't own them on DVD. but we never watch them as you are right, VHS quality sucks. we have a VHS player but it isn't even hooked up to the tv.

and well blueray DVDs ... don't really know much about them yet, but they take advantage of HDTV functionality primarily don't they? and well if you can't afford an HDTV (cause you own too many movies) then well it isn't really going to enhance your viewing pleasure.

hmm thinking i should have opened a 'how many movies' poll and not dvd.If we're talking how many films we own in any format, it's probably 350-400...

I always hated horribly cropped, squeezed or pan-and-scan versionshttp://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif
