if someone is talking about "doing calm", they mean setting up an area (or helping with) that will heal wounds. this is where the "first-aid" kit is, the bandaids, the herbs, and the knoweldge of how to use them properly.
http://www.infolation.com/calm/
that is the "unofficial" CALM website.
"CALM is the tribe of people at the Rainbow Gathering who are entrusted with setting up public health and sanitation systems and with providing health care for Family members during the Rainbow Gatherings. The CALM staff is made up of volunteers representing a broad range of healing modalities. Among our group are found licensed medical doctors, chiropractors, acupuncturists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, certified homeopaths and naturopathic doctors, lay and nurse midwives, EMTs, social workers and mental health counselors, massage therapists, herbalists, Native American shamans and other spiritual healers. You do not need to be a formally trained “healer” to work at CALM. The Rainbow Gathering is a healing place and we are all at the Gathering to heal ourselves, the planet and, of course, each other. If you have love in your heart and an open mind, than you too can work at CALM.
We all work together, not just to fix the booboos and sunburn that people experience while living harmoniously in a national forest during a Rainbow Gathering. We do spiritual and emotional healings as well."

I would love to volunteer for calm, setting it up and I have had almost 6 years working in nursing, at a hospital here doing icu stepdown and geriatrics.
I love to help as much as I can, who do I talk to about volunteering for calm, and when does it start?

you can talk to the folks in council, on the land, when the feather comes around, sharing your vision and offering your help. you can also plug in then, as others should be focalizing what needs to happen to make a gathering safe for all, the issue of CALM will be brought up, i'm sure.
if you vocalize an interest in helping CALM and mention that you have nursing experience, the people you need to find will find YOU!
supplies are always in need at CALM, http://www.infolation.com/calm/content/supplies.htm
"Because all health care is provided for free, it is necessary that we receive donations of supplies to continue to serve the Family. This following list should serve as a guideline for supplies needed to set up any CALM unit, whether at a medium sized Regional or at the annual Gathering:"
CALM sets up with seed camp and stay through clean-up, it's a key piece to making the gathering a safe place for all, so energy sent it's way either through supplies or time given is always a priority.

theres no organization to speak of that they could charge...i suppose they could try and charge individuals for camping but i cant imagine that happening...no, gatherings r entirely and 100 percent free...

the gathering is always free, the camping fee you mention is for designated campsites with auto's, such was Buck lake and other campgrounds of the sort. foot traffic is free..
if any one trys to charge you for entering the gathering then they are scaming you.. :detective
