Shithead, I can relate to ya, you remind me of folks I hold dear to my heart. I do think ya get a bit edgy if ya think someone might be disagreein' with ya tho. No need. I know alot of them frontgaters work hard! Doin' the stuff that I'd probably rather not deal with myself, mostly 'cause I deal with that shit all summer on almost a daily basis anyhoo, without goin' to a gathering. I've met some GRAND A-campers who worked their butts off and took all the flack for the rest of us who don't want to hang there. I bet you if I thought about it, about 80% of my friends/neighbors are alcoholics. But me, I don't drink. Been in and around too many bad bummers, seen too much bad shit, don't like the buzz, don't like the way it makes me act, and couldn't see doin' something I didn't like the taste of simply so I could spend the rest of the time trying not to act stupid.... I also see alcohol takin' down some of my dearest peeps. Ya know, cirrosis and all. Makes me cry. But bein' in a position where I have to deal with a BUNCH of drinkers most of the summer months, I get EXTREMELY burnt out. Breakin' up fights, havin' drinks spilled on me, bein' wallered on, and fucking expensive sound equipment knocked over by stumbling-nobody-home-in-theres, tryin' to keep folks from pukin' in the wrong places, cleanin' up HUNDREDS of cans and bottles, broken glass, feedin' 'em all, and then havin' the law pissed at us fer allowin' it in the first place... Sorry, but I go to Rainbow to ESCAPE the daily babalonian grind! That's why I stay away from main gate. That's why I at least like to PRETEND that Rainbow ain't no drinkin' party. What's happenin' here is that it don't matter how many GOOD things ya say about 'em, all they seem to be focusing on is that somebody might be disagreeing with the QUANTITY, not the QUALITY. My only "bad" habit is smokin' weed, and I UNDERSTAND that not everyone under the sun agrees with THAT and some people actually get offended by it, therefore I am DISCREET about it so that I don't OFFEND anybody. I do respect the A-campers for the good things they do. But these guys here don't seem to be getting that. Too defensive. It's ALL about respecting the other guy. And it IS true that the majority don't want to see a bunch of people drinking openly. Nor do they want to see the cans and bottles laying around. If folks don't say something, it'll just keep gettin' worse. That's all. I ain't tryin' to bash a bunch of hard workin' folks, just tryin' to keep some perspective here. I could be real negative and say, well, the whole world is goin' to hell, so I guess you can expect Rainbow to go to hell too, but I would HOPE that enough folks with RESPECT for others would be in the majority so this doesn't happen. It would be a total bummer to think that Rainbow was just turning into one big fucked up party and nothing more. I'd stop goin'. And then ya wonder, just where do folks like me go then? We'd have to make another gathering. That's just all stupid. Peacefully coexisting is just that. I don't go around to the alcohol camps and tell 'em they can't be drinkin'. I simply try to stay away from those places. I just don't want it shoved in my face or have to be forced into dealing with it if I don't want to. If nobody's doin' that, then there's no problem. I used to be one of those that didn't like A-camp. Ya wanna know why?
1. I was young, inexperienced, shy, and yall greeting people with "fuck you" & all the fightin scared me.
2. The house hippies that I met, that got me into Rainbow, all thought A-campers were too loud, too obnoxious, too pushy. So all I heard was them putting yall down.
3. The aggressiveness with which some of yall spange at front gate made me uncomfortable.
4. Have I mentioned hearing everyone I knew talk shit about yall every time A-camp was mentioned?

Then I decided to start traveling. Then I met some kids who hung out in A-camp on occasion. We're not talking old-time hard core A-campers, but some-timers. (So nobody you'd probably know or heard stories of.)

Then some stupid shit happened and the shit hit the fan. Guess who had my back? Sure as hell wasn't the kind rainbow brother bears. But the sometimes A-campers were there when I needed it.

I am what you call a Happy person when I overindulge in any mind altering drug,it's when I have to be around Unhappy people,that's when I have a problem. This is when I move on down the road,if I feel I can't bring a happy solution to the problem.
It's just like when I'm watching some show that doesn't make sense to me and that's not just at A camp, I have trouble at times with the High Holies.

1st off i really love ya all and respect the work ya do
and have no hate for anyone
but some things i've witnessed has saddened me..and i cant say its 1 person or another from a camp, or just drunk local troublemakers, but when i come into a gathering (like wv) and at front gate is 10 kids all with black eyes...then further down the trail run into a drunk kid whos on a mission to get someone to hit him...and further down the trail run into another drunk kid beligerently tryinmg to get some poor suster to let him watch her take a piss...
its stuff like this that makes ppl not like alcahol being there..also when u go back to your vehicle to find the window smashed..or hear stories of a campers forcibly yanking ppl out of theyre cars for not givin up spange..
its not any people..just certain stories of rather uncool behaviors that affect ppl's attitudes
and like someone else said..i live in a drug and alcahol destroyed neighbourhood..when i goto rainbow i go to get away from all that and restore my sence of peace and sanity
and the last thing i wanna see is some drunk 16 yr old pushin ppl around tryin to make em hit him....and when i arrive i'm looking forward to hugs and smiles..not bloody beatten up black eyed kids welcoming me with a scowl..
i guess what ppl hate about a camp is that we need an a camp in the 1syt place.. we hate that inviting the world..also invites the worlds problems...

but i've never been 1 to ever have any probs with anyone at a-camp
but..i dont spend time there ..i dont hang at jesus camp if i dont wanna be preached at..and dont hang at a camp if i dont wanna get stumbled over spit on and have to potentialy deal with a fight startin..nothing personal against anyone in particular ppl just go where the vibe calls em....theres a place for everyone in rainbow wether its peace and qui#et u seek or loud and roudy

like i dont goto yoga meadow to get all crazy..i wouldnt go to a-camp to just chill and relax (since i dont drink)
but i will go to front gate on rare occassions to help out if needed

i do give ya all alotta respect..ya work some long hours and do a great job..but u gottsa also recognize the 1st impression ya give alotta new rainbows..and i've talked to quite a few who never really even made it into the main site cuz they never made it past a camp either cause they were turned away, scared away, or just hung out with ya and missed out on the full rainbow experience (well only heard that twice and both were just day trippers weekend warrior types who could only be there for a day)..
i guess i wasnt too good at answering the question since i rambled a bit..but i guess the biggest concern is the 1st impression iu giive to new arrivals
ya really shouldnt feel a bit of hate..only love..but theres definately concern mixed in..but doesnt it take love to be concerned?

Many props to all of you A-campers that help make the gathering work, dealing with car chaos, the man, and shuttling people etc. Many of you guys really do bust ass and take care of the shitty jobs like trash that many try to avoid.

I also wish you would stop hating yourselves by drinking shitloads of alcohol, we need you guys so please don't fuck up your liver! This hits pretty close to home for me becasue alcohol use is responsible for killing both of my uncles.
