I recently came out to my parents

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums. I'm Dallas, 17 years old. Great old Ocala, Florida! Hippie Central! WOOT! But I just thought I make a post here about my trans gender issues.

I've recently come out to my parents about my transgender issues. My mom doesn't care, neither does my step sister. In fact, my step sister lets me wear and borrow her clothes. It's great! But my dad doesn't exactly approve. I don't even know if he believes me or not. He seems to have mixed feelings about it.

But I've always had these feelings that make me want to wear girls' clothes. But up until recently, I had been keeping them inside of me. I took my first big step at school on wednesday by wearing soem girl pants to school. I got a lot of attention from it. I'm known to do crazy stuff, so I didn't get made fun of or anything, not even once.

But then again, lots of guys wear girl pants at our school. So ya never know.

Thanks! Yeah, I will admit, at first it wasn't easy. But I think that everyone is adjusting. My step sister didn't even seem to adjust, she was ready and willing to let me wear her clothes from the get go. It's like she enjoys it as much as I do!

But for any other teenagers out there finding out that you have transgender issues, be prepared from the road to be bumpy, but eventually, things will work out. Just give it time.

Thanks! But yeah, our school is very open. You can do things out of the ordinary and not have people give it a second thought. Our school is really awsome. Except they've never dealt with transgender issues before.

But the transgender law center states that as long as you aren't causing a disruption in class, you are allowed to wear clothes in your gender identity.

Ok, here's a recent update.

My mom is in rehab now, so she can't really help me cope with my dad's homophobicness. But whatever, he doesn't seem to want to believe me or talk about it. I really hate it. I wish he was more accepting.

But on a more happier note, I've recently purchased a plaid skirt. I really like it it's really great. I had to order it online at HotTopic.com . They have some pretty cool stuff for the rocker and goth kids. You gatta love the music! I also ordered some striped leggings too. They look pretty good with it.

this is a very postive thread and Dallas where ever you go with this, there will always be people that will be uncomfortable but I think what your doing is great

Sounds like you go to a fairly accepting school. Are they accepting because they just think you're a crazy teen doing odd stuff or is it known that you're trans?

Wow, sorry guys. I've been gone for a while.

But anyway, note that I don't actually wear my skirt to school. There would be major problems with the administration. Even though as a transgendered individual, I have the right to wear a skirt, they still wouldn't just let me do it and not have a confrontation with me. But no one says aything about my pants though.

As for my friends, almost all of them know and are very accepting. And I wear girl pants to school and no one cares.

Haha! I pair that up with a Tie-Dye, Led Zeppelin, or Greatful Dead shirt and I start a trend. I love it.

Oh and thanks for the links Samhain. Those were good reads. It's so great to know that there are many people out there who are so accepting of who I am. But through all of this I have learned to never forget who you are, always fight for what you truely believe in, never let anyone get you down, and remember that it's all about the love!

My mom is extremely accepting. But my dad isn't all so accepting of this. He tries but he really doesn't like it.

You know how most men are, they are so insecure that they might like it and what people think. I wouldnt worry about it, just know he loves you deep down. Maybe he is thinking that he did something wrong raising you(which is not the case). It will all work out and you are a brave soul for being yourself. By the way I thinkyou look hot in the skirt...

Give your dad time, he may just need to adjust. Also, maybe point him towards websites that explain what you're going through so he doesn't have to ask questions that could be embarrassing for both of you (unless of course you are comfortable with that). Good luck!

Well, I started dressing in public at about your age, although I was out of high school by then, just entering college.

Just go with what your heart tells you, and take some Martial Arts classes so you can defend yourself if people get nasty.

Hi.I just came out to my parents this summer.You at least have you have your mom and sis.My parents thought it was a big joke and repeatedly rubbed it in my face,so i let the issue drop off the map.They were also mortified and decided to keep it between themselves and me.My step-sis doesn't even know.I'd tell the family,but most are narks and I know my parents would kick my butt if I told.Luckly,I have some great bffs and they know.
