I've seen these hemp necklaces and bracelets. They look really cool. I know you can put beads and all sorts of things inside of them while you're weaving.
Has anyone ever tried doing it? Where can I get a hemp weaving kit?

I don't know about kits... but here is the link to a webbie which I found useful. It gives instructions on different knots and adding beads to your hemp.

Hope this helps you!

heres a link for a hemp jewelry making kit. i wouldn't suggest buying it for the kinda money there asking for... but you wanted a kit, and a kit is what you'll get.

really though, you dont need a kit.
all you need is hemp and knowledge. beads if you must.
if you have a slab of wood, stick a nail in it it and you got your self a "kit"...

Haha! I suppose that's true. But I've never done it before, and I wanted to know if there is a guide to do it.

Yay! Hempyness! But too bad you can't legally grow it yourself. It seems that the government and the man try to keep us down as best as possible. Oh well, I suppose that's life, ya know?

Its really easy though if you have the time and patience. I know it took me a while to figure all the different ties out but I went to the library and had a book ordered for me for free that showed me different ties on hempy knots and such. You could always just try Walmart in there arts and crafts section if you wanted to start out cheap with hemp and some wooden beads or whateva. I like to "knit" with my hemp. Just made a cool hair band for my frizzies on top LOL
Good luck though.......

Wow, that's cool. I'd like to get a head band. That'd be awsome. It's like cooleo and stuff. I love it. I wonder if Wal-Mart would carry hemp and beads and such... mmm... I'll have to check over there oneday.

Walmart may. But I can understand why you don't support them. Small business is better.

Well if ur Walfarts is anythin like mine they will have the hemp and beads. I dont necessarily like the beads they have. They dont have that great of a selection but for starters it would be good. I have upgraded now to buyin my glass beads and funky beads from shows and festivals and from friends or from stores who sell that kind of stuff but for beginners I think it would be great to do. If ya want a hemp head band........hey get a hold of me. I am makin 3 right now tomorrow:)Ill give ya a great deal on em LOL

spread the love to people who deserve it.....
ive been doing hemp necklaces for over 10 years on and off. i started with just a ball of thin hemp and i bought some strings of beads from the thrift store:)
i hope your trying it and hope your doing well !:):)

Hemp bracelets has become a hobby of mine. I make them all the time. I learned how on that site, too. It's so much simpler than it looks. Once you make them though try not to get it wet all the time, the hemp will get flimsy and be more prone to fraying and coming apart. I prefer like jillllionssss of beads. :D I'll post some of my stuff sometime.

hahaha thats a paradox...hemp...at walmart. kind of like how my friend josh has an environmentally friendly, recycled notebook...from walmart. walmart is bad. If there is a michaels craft store near you, i know they have inexpensive starter hemp kits there! I wouldn't use a kit but i can see why if you have never done it before and have no one to teach you, you would. I learned in art class.

i love to make jewelry and to try different things. i do not know really i could make money for myself, but I have been making them for my friends and family. i have talked to a classmate who runs the earth day rummage sale at my school and i offered to donate some of my crafts for next year to sell. i won't get money but the money raised is going to a worthy cause of the local women's shelter and a conservation fund.

It's wonderful that you are going to make jewelry & donate it! We buy a lot of our beads from Fire Mountain Gems...they have better business ethics than Michael's or Walmart...I think Fire Mountain has hemp too, we get our hemp from It's a Beautiful Day in Kansas City.

i stole hemp once from Wal-Mart, haha :)
It was crappy hemp though. Eh, I guess chlorine and dyed hemp isn't a good idea.
But dude, get baking clay (you know, childrens clay), mix colors and make trippy beads. It makes the braceltes a lot more personal.
oh, and I suggest making mushrooms too if you can find an art supply store that has hooks to put in the top. I looooove making mushroom necklaces ^^;
I think I'm gonna try selling some to a local store soon<33

walmart uses cheap hungarian hemp, it has way too many knotts in it.
You can make alot of money selling hemp jewlery, my tribe lives of hemp sales.
heres a pic of me selling some to a bunch of soldiers a few years back, http://www.hipgallery.com/photopost2/data/500/soldiers.jpeg

I just got patterns of the net, and once you get the hang of it, you can really come up with some creative designs. And its addictive, and I find it very relaxing.

im pretty good at making hemp and if u want a bracelet or a necklace give me a few bucks and ur address and tell me what ud like and ull get it. and i learned from a little kit my friend got me with a little fold out of knots and ideas. i practiced and got pretty good at it. ive never bought hemp from walmart tho i bought some beads there once. my friend stole me a leaf bead to make his gf a necklace for her b-day so i charged him half price but the bead was shit and i set something on it and it snapped in two! so he had to steal me another one. if u could make me a headband thatd be awesome just tell me how much and where to send the money. and if you can weave (which isnt hard) you can make a belt. i prefer to stick to bracelets and necklaces tho. also ive made some pretty good money selling them around school but its gotten to the point where i just make em and give em to ppl. give me ur address and ill mail u one. also i buy wood beads from AC moore b/c theyre cheap and i prefer wood over glass. the finish isnt too good but if you remove the finish it looks good, just scrape it with a knife or put it in some paint thinner. and i buy the beads b/c i cant find any other beads to fit in fat hemp. its only medium sized hemp but its pretty big. and ac moore hemp doesnt have many knots at all. ive been thinking about making a vest by weaving it but that would be time consuming although i think it would be rewarding. sorry for the insanely long post but i love to talk.
also, do me a favor by visiting "join our traveling commune! please?" in the communal living forum. if u like the idea then u can email me or my buddy about it. and btw blinkin, nice bus. hope ur having a real good time and if there r any tips u can give me itd b appreciated

My suggestion would be to start with Walmart, cheap shit or not. You can get the hemp, beads, and instructions for around 5 bucks. I did this a year ago, and now I make all my jewelry and sell too (hemp and not). I now buy beads at thrift stores and flea markets, but be sure to get quality hemp, once you start for real. Hobby Lobby has some cool books for help with advance knots, but I don't suggest their hemp. It is crap, with a horrid selection at that.
Good luck
