Downloading films

Do you download films or TV series?

It's totally changed the way I watch TV and films, I will download a series rather than tuning in at the time it's broadcast, and I get to see loads of films I would probably never see if I couldn't download them. It's widened and rekindled my interest in cinema!

Some more obscure films which I would love to go and see in the cinema just don't get released where I live so I have to download them. American TV series I wouldn't get to see are now available to me...

What's your opinion on downloading stuff?

With the over rated new service called Topuptv Anytime, downloading will be automatic. One of the cheapest available PVRs at 160 Gig for 200 pounds, when it launches:rolleyes: Probably December 2007.

does the UK have a version of the DMCA?Yeah it's certainly not legal and I think there have been a (very) few token prosecutions of people sharing music on p2p networks in the UK...

I wouldn't want to watch DVDs on me pooter, and i like buying DVDs, so i wouldn't bother. However, i do download specialist TV stuff, such as pilots for TV (Shooting Stars, Blackadder) and specials, etc...

I invested in a long cable so I can feed video from my computer to my TV and sound to my stereo :D

Also you can convert avi files to DVD-Video discs although transcoding takes bloody ages even on a fast pooter...

That was the only thing that stopped me from downloading more movies and series episodes..

Still, it freed up the tv and dvd player for the rest of the family, and let me watch my stuff in private... Dark, suspiciously "locked room" private...

my hubby and i (well mainly most of them are his) have a killer dvd collection. but, we both have gotten into downloading movies. basically, if it is one we are unsure of, or we don't have the money at the time it is released we will download it.
i have to say that we don't download those 'screener = filmed on a handycam while someone was sitting in the theatre' copies but only the DVD rips so they are decent quality. as we don't have a dvd burner they never leave our computer (unless we delete them), and well if we really like it after watching it, we'll go out and buy it when we can.

however, there are some things you just can't download (like Pirates of the Carribean 2) and you have to run out and buy it for the ultimate in surround sound experience.

i think true movie fans will spend the cash to buy em anyway even if they do download movies.

I would download films, but I am lazy and prefer to get it immediately and I like collecting DVDs too.

sorry if i got the terminology wrong but every 'screener' copy we attempted to download looked as if they were just recorded with a handicam very grainy quality and usually really bad sound.

I'm downloading nearly 24 hours a day.. on occasion I may turn my puter off at night!!

But a good screener is out early and usually has good quality depending on the ripper.But they often go black and white and/or have an annoying message that pops up at regular intervals threatening you with death if you continue watching... so I'll mostly only go for proper DVD rips, but a screener if I'm desperate. Shaky cinema handheld cams are a total no no!

see if something has a b/w flip in it i don't consider that 'good quality' from the start. or if there is text running along the bottom. i'd just rather wait till the dvd comes out.

...oh i meant and download the rip.... (didn't want you to actually think i was PAYING for my movies) ;)

I actually prefer the DVD-R reps over the rips but there are much fewer of the reps out there.Do you mean the full 4.7GB DVD files? I've downloaded a few but even on a 1MB connection it takes weeks! :eek:

Downloaded films on sky to watch, never for keeps, except an odd music video.
