Members of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan have obtained a permit to demonstrate on the downtown Ellijay square Saturday, Nov. 8, at noon.

Ellijay Police Chief Larry Callahan told the Times-Courier, “Members of the organization applied for a permit to protest illegal immigration Saturday morning. They met all of the specifications required by law and were granted the permit. They will be on the square from noon until 2 p.m.”

The chief said at press deadline Tuesday that traffic will not be halted around the square area during the demonstration.

It has been nearly a decade since the Klan last met in Ellijay. That meeting brought law enforcement agents from multiple jurisdictions, but there were no incidents reported.

Callahan added, “We do not expect any problems Saturday, but we will have an adequate number of law enforcement officers available to handle them if the need arises.”

Yeah, the klan recieves their permits for their little marches and rallies. This happens every once and a while. I'm glad to hear there will be a counter-demonstration, please feel free to scream at those assholes for me. I've been to several klan counter-demonstrations, it's fun as hell to yell at them. Usually, there are more people at a klan rally to counter-demonstrate than there are klan supporters. Fuck white supremacy.

The problem with permits it that you have to get govenment permission to breathe in this country anymore, and they're trying to pass it off as a free nation.

The 1st amendment says we have the right to peaceably assemble and doesn't say anything about a permit to do it.
