Am I in the minority here that remembers hipsters (or low cut) jeans the first time round? Am I the only one here who has had to go to a chiropractor because of the ridiculously high platform shoes I wore in the 70's? Does anyone else get annoyed because you have to go on line to find clothes that are now termed as vintage? Have you been living a green life style from before it became trendy? Let's be hearing from you....

Hello there, welcome to the Karma Kafe! What drew you to hippy culture originally? And do you still consider yourself a hippy?

Hey Peace-Phoenix! We communicated before...

Yup, I have been a hippy forever. My eldest son asked me where I wanted to go for a holiday a couple of weeks ago as he it stomping up for a family outing and when I told him India his reply was "Well, I suppose that's where all old hippies want to go"

I am the type of hippy mum who took her kids to music festivals and on demos, argued with facists at Speakers Corner (much to the embarrassment of my off spring) and taught all my boys to stand up and be counted and not to be afraid and to stick to their convictions.

I have recycled, re-used and reduced before that was invented as a public call to arms against pollution. I was brought up by family who grew their own food - but it was always organic then anyway. I have just continued doing this. I spent Sunday morning on the beach with my 4 year old gathering seaweed for veg patch fertilizer! The notion of composting is something we always practiced.

Listen, what's the point if we can't live naturally? What's the point if we can't share? What's the point in wasting resources just for the sake of overblown economic policies. I hate this want want want society we live in.

If you believe in it, then live it. It'll make you happier in the long run.

Hi, you sound well organised do you also carry livestock ?

Sea Breeze
11-18-2006, 12:12 PM
Hi there dapablo! No livestock but I did consider getting a couple of ducks to sort out the slugs and bugs. Why ducks? Better than chickens as they can fly so have a better chance against foxes and other predators. However if I just get an urge to go travel I can't upsticks and leave the poor old ducks....so we are sticking to old fashioned methods of slug control!!

seabreeze, are you a young fart at heart old fart hippy who farts for heart?

Sea Breeze

I used to work in the music industry......I've seen lots of really interesting people both live and in recording studios so it would be hard to pick a favourite. Dave Brubeks 80th birthday concert was something else if you like jazz. Ravi Shankar is awesome and I used to make an annual pligramage to see his london shows before I moved to a remote place...

No, funnily enough egg shells and salt. Also hand removing them. I have found that if you plant comfrey at the end of a veg plot they make a bee-line for it as they think comfrey is slug smoked salmon! Then they leave everything else alone. What's that a torch and fork ?

Sea Breeze

Have been - but working. It's got really mad now. Don't think I'd going voluntarily now. Being up here is shedding light on other smaller festivals which have amazing vibes. The Celtic Music Festival on the Isle of Skye is a great one!

I have 3 boys, one of 20, one of 17 and the we one who is four who was a bit of a surprise to the system but glad he's here. My eldest is not a hippy - I would describe him as a Saffy (Ab Fab) but a bit more understanding. My middle one is really but he would never describe himself as a hippy. You can see where it has all worn off though!!

Did you work Beautiful Days? And if so which year? A few of us from the forums were working there last year, might have seen you....

Sea Breeze

No, I ran away to the country a while ago. My last Glastonbury was 94 or 95, can't remember. I stayed in touch with some people for a while but two years ago decided I need to do something cathartic and deleted e-mail adresses, phone numbers and addresses so there was no going back. I rarely see anyone from that previous life as I am in such a remote place and I only really stay intouch with a couple of really old friends from days gone.

Any regrets in the old life? What made you fancy a change?

Sea Breeze
11-25-2006, 01:24 PM
No regrets. Bust up with my partner too who still performs and records and just had to get away from the whole scene. Enough is enough. I t was fun while it lasted in a wierd kind of way. I'm really happy now and I live in a real peaceful place.

I worked for an management company, reggae, jazz, world music, when I left University and then got into PR and marketing. My partner and I had a production/management company. He was part of a very big international band, platinum discs etc. They are still working. I like anonimity.
