When people hear the name of the city they think of the Little Old Lady from Pasadena, or about the Rose Bowl or the pejorative term Pasadena bluehair. When I was looking for a place root after spending time on the more chic westside, I opted for Pasadena.
Why ?
I had visions of Craftsman bungalows, stained glass windows, wainscoting and fieldstone paths. I have a garden and chickens in the yard. I have fruit trees and a compost. I'm just twelve miles east of downtown Los Angeles and I have wildlife all around me. There are parrots that fly overhead and peacocks spotted in someone else's garbage can.
I have Thai and Indian restaurants. Antiques are readily available. Bowling is not out of vogue. There is a good community college nearby and some fine hospitals in the neighborhood.
Five years have gone by and I have not regretted choosing this town. Of course, I also have my eye on Hawai'i :)
