The Illuminati is the general term for a high-level masonic secret society that has been around for hundreds of years. It didn't begin nor end with Weishaupt's Bavarian Illuminati as many people believe, rather was only one branch of it that popped up in the later half of the 18th century. An Oxford dictionary from the 12th century has reference to the Illuminati.

To briefly sum it up, the Illuminati consists of the highest level freemasons and their various offshoots which control the world as we know it through a compartmentalized structure of various people, organizations and agencies.

Who do you think owns and controls the media?I've seen several programs on TV (and also listened to many on radio) about it and related things, like the masons. So is it even a conspiracy anymore since many/most people have as least heard of it or aware of it? or at least hardly a secret.

Don't expect the History Channel, or even the majority of "alternative" radio shows to deliver you the truth. More often than not it's fragments of truth shrowded in disinformation and fantasy, aimed to confuse and mislead. The same goes for the majority of "conspiracy" books put out there, which can be found on the shelves of every major bookstore across the country.
