hey, i'm kind of new to this forum, seems like a nice place. is there anyone from my area here? i need to find some interesting, more liberal people to hang out with, and since i'm sort of a home-body, it's sort of hard to meet people. for the most part, the only aquaintences i have have very little in common with me when it comes to their respective passions and hobbies, and even less when it comes to personal views.
yeah, it's so cool here... suburban white people are really intelligent and interesting, with their big vehicles and skateboarding clothes they wear despite not skateboarding. oh, and don't let me forget going to the lake and going on some assholes boat... that's always fun, being surrounded by obnoxious alpha males and giggling females with giant sunglasses and fabulous hair... gotta love how 80% of the people in my age group have the same personality and views, like they're part of a fucking hive mind...
sorry, i'm a little bitter, living in paso robles (AKA, little south carolina) for a few years will do that to you.

Hey man, I live in Paso too! From your post, you pretty much sound the male version of me. So what do you like to do around here?

hey, cool! well, what *is* there to do around here? my friends and i always seem to end up at denny's in the wee hours, trying to think of something to do. although, i've pretty much been keeping to myself lately, and have kind of lost touch with those people. anyway, i pretty much just stay in the comfort and safety of my room. you know, playing and listening to music, watching movies, being a hermit and whatnot. i'm not working right now, and i don't go to school, so it's kind of hard to meet new people. what do you do around here?
(nice icon, by the way. i don't really know a lot of alex grey's work outside of what he's done on the last two tool albums, but i love his style.)

Ohh sweet you're one of the only people on here who's recognized where my avatar is from. What do I do? I work at a local photo lab, go to cuesta north campus (when I feel so inclined..) and try to spend some of my time off with my boyfriend (been together almost 4 years). Um, the rest of the time I just like to chill...there's not a lot of stuff to do in Paso so for fun I usually go to the coast or down to SLO, or stay at home being a computer nerd and hanging out with my older bro and mom. Like you, I've pretty much lost touch with all my former friends due to general differences of opinion....just not sharing the same type of beliefs, views on society, etc.

well shit, that's cool. i'm glad i'm not the only one who has been driven into isolation by the general populace here.
the only two people i would call close friends live down in ventura county. i haven't seen them since last december, because the bastards don't want to come to "little nebraska," as they call it, and i can't afford to make the trip down there. the people i used to hang out with here, i just met through my work, and figured, what the hell, at least it's some company. unfortunately, it seems i prefer my own company to that of people who i really don't really have anything in common with.
how long have you been in this area? i've been in this general area most of my life, in atascadero for most of my life (even worse than paso on most accounts), santa margarita for about 2 years, and paso just for the past 2. for some reason or another, i've never lived in the nicer areas of this county, go figure. i like morro bay because of the ocean and the more laid back vibe, and SLO because there's more to do, but even then, there's not much outside of eating and shopping. at least there are some decent record stores there, though.

I've also been in this area pretty much my whole life (minus the 6 months I spent in the valley when I was first born). Templeton for most of it, where I went to school even after moving to Paso in middle school. Shit, I may have even seen you before.
Well cool man, it's really nice to see someone on the forums is actually nearby. Feel free to PM me or whatever anytime. :)

I've given serious thought to life in Cambria. I've driven through and thoroughly enjoy what I've seen.

yeah, cambria is pretty. i haven't been there in years, but i remember really liking the general atmosphere. also, there are lots of trees! paso robles and atascadero are both pretty ugly and tree-less in the downtown areas, which i really can't stand. i need shade, damnit!

Cambria is gorgeous! I usually stop in on my way up to San Simeon, which is a couple times a month. There are some great little deli's and cafe's there, too.

Showing my age again: I too went to Cuesta, 1979. Only one campus in those days.
I first took the Psych. Tech program and worked at Atascadero State Hospital (Fun City).
Later I was excepted into the R.N. program. Lived on my sailboat when I was in school. Had a mooring at Avilla Beach and would trade off with a guy who had a mooring at Morro Bay. Nice change of scenery.
There was no place in the area to finish my undergrad. studies, so when up north and finished at Sonoma State.
Had a good time in SLO area.............Dennis......
God, I am old, was 29 when I got serious about going back to school in 1979.

ImaMuffin--I'm at the north county campus and don't have a decided major and am basically just getting my general ed out of the way, but when people ask I generally just say sociology as its what I'm most likely to major in.

Looks like Molten and Lace are getting romantic -- let's hope they click. I spent four wonderful years at Cal Poly in the period 1964-1968. I have mostly happy memories of those days, including scrambles of all the minor summits along the valley, poison oak and all.
I live in Canada now. Life only comes by once, but I will always remember San Luis and Cal Poly, and young love, and hiking to the summit of Morro Rock (it was allowed back then).

"An old man returns to Paris,
As every old man must.
He finds the winter winds blow cold.
His dreams have turned to dust.
Raspberries, strawberries, the good wines we brew.
Here's to the girls of the country side, whom we must bid adieu."

Looks like a photo from the top of Mt. Cuesta. I used to ride my motorcycle up there on the week end a watch the hang gliders take to the wind. Always wanted to try it but never did.....................Dennis.....

iv always wondered....why do they have letters on the tops of the mountains?
ImaMuffin
03-05-2007, 02:56 AM
on the sides? there's one on seven of the nine sisters (most people think there are only seven sisters because two are underwater.) I think they are the first letters of the name of the mountain or the person that owns it.

The SLO shot is obviously from a plane, year unknown. If you see some white specks in the foreground at the base of the hill, that is the Cal Poly architectural project center, where you can find houses built like mushrooms, domes, pipe dreams or whatever. I lost my virginity there early one evening in 1965.
Why do 'they' put letters on hillsides? The one above Cal Poly is a letter 'P'. It stands for 'pissed'.
