Ok....the number 1 all time crap song is.....Muscratt Love by the Captain and Tenille.
The number 2 all time crappo is....My Ding a Ling.
And bringing up the rear...literally is.....ALL RAP! ( I know some of you like it but its ALL crap to me, so keep it to yourself)
Of course these are my opinions but alot of people agree with me.(at least those who know whats REALLY happenin')

I object to any music that becomes popular only because of promotion, and not because the music is any good.
The Cheeky Girls are a good example of this.
Anyone who thinks rap isn't "real music" is confused about what music is.

Yeah, just because my husband is 59 years old and has been a musician for a better part of those years and we have a recording studio in our house and he gives lessons and has played with Delbert Mclinton, Bobby Brooks, Amy Ferebee, and sat in with Lonnie Mack when he was in Cinncinnati and I play the guitar and sing....we are so confused over what real Music is.
REAL MUSIC takes TALENT.......Anyone can yell and walk around holding their crotch and use cuss words. I learned how to rhyme before i went to school. So thats no big deal. Put an instrument in their hands and watch the dumb look on their face, tell them to actually sing some melody...or even some harmony and....duh.
As i said in my other post I know some of you like this stuff...but in my opinion it is just more loudmouth noise...and they are laughing at the people who will actually spend money coming to see them and buy their cd's.....some of them think the more nasty and crude the better, when I was 10 we thought is was cool to cuss too.........
I tried to listen to this stuff a few times and the only way I can stomach it is if its incorporated into a song like with what the 'Bare Naked Ladies' do or some of the more streamlined bands...like when Areosmith did "Walk this way' with a bit of rap from ...can't remember. Adding another layer to a song with a bit of something different can be pleasing to the ear, but not just a steady stream of noise.
Music is a personal thing, such as Art is. We like what we like.
As some of the music I listen to would be crap to you......I like Salsa and I'm sure some turn their nose up to that and would say"turn that crap off" and I would respect that.
But the disgusting rap that I heard coming from a parked car at the gas station one day blew me away...especially after i saw the little girl who looked like she was about 7 sitting in the back seat, it looked like she was with her older brother and another young guy. The rap was about this guy doing something to your momma where the sun don't shine and the "chorus" was about getting his certain body part sucked...this was blaring....
nope. sorry, nothing redeeming that i can hear........
And yes, I do know that not all of rap is about cussing. Still just noise to me.

Yes there are similarities and loads of similarities between rap and the old Doo Wop that was started on the street corners back in the late 40's early 50's.
I love that stuff, beautiful accopella(sp) and harmonies....music just wouldn't be the same today with out that...however, there is just a difference to me between that and the yelling and cursing that is being passed off as talent.
I do liken it more to beat poetry, which I think is where it belongs, but like I said this is my opinion.
I do understand music, its just my taste that may be different than yours.
I of course went through the same thing growing up and being told to "turn down that crap" when I would play the beatles....lol.
I can tolerate some rap, its just that"gangsta' stuff that really irks me....

08-02-2004, 02:13 AM
I can't say what's the most awful song since my opinion is different from everyone elses. I choose not to listen to pop music. I can't relate to it.
the rap argument bothers me so much. I'm from the ghetto. I was raised around the same things a lot of the rappers grew up with, so i can relate to that music better than anythign else. I really dislike when it's okay for pop and rock to sa the same exact things as rap songs, only coded, and that's okay, but rap is blasted daily by people. I really dislike that. I like a lot of rap and some I don't. I'm not gonna liek everything, but I also don't throw every music that sounds that way into a single catagory and say it's all bad. It's like putting hippies into a single catagory and saying every last one is the same.

If I remember correctly, the group's name was either Focus or Hocus Focus, and the song was Focus. Theres was literally no lyrics, but a lot of yoedeling like singing; and song went on and on for what seems to be about 7 minutes. It charted about 1971 and wouldn't go away for weeks. God, it was awful. And it still is.
What scares me is that it is still out there. Waiting for some idiot "Oldies" DJ to play it, or even worst - show up as a soundtrack in an Adidas or Chevy commercial.

Eminem
Britney Spears

Sum 41

I pretty much think that little by little-even Maroon 5 are selling out.
There's that Hilary Duff song..."Let the rain fall down...." and that Hoobastank song, the one where the singer just basically holds the one note throughout the song....
When I worked at Subway, they always had it on a crappy radio station, so I turned it down so it was barely audible so that I could get through the day with my sanity, but those two songs would always break the silence, and they played them like 4 times a day each.....That's when I had to take smoke breaks, I hated them so much......

Pretty much anything by Enema-M and the whole constipated rap music industry.
As I've said before, it's time to end the 20 year monopoly of rap and flush the bowels of today's constipated music industry.
Also:
Music Box Dancer

Killing Me Softly With His Song (never could understand those lyrics)
anything by the Partridge Family (they were bad enough to look at, let alone listen to)
Any recording by the Brady Bunch Kids (Congress should have those tapes burned)
Ebony/Ivory (most trite lyrics ever)

this one has been torturing me this morning, since I heard 10 seconds of it on the radio last night.
I can't fight this feeling any longer
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow
What started out as friendship, has grown stronger
I only wish I had the strength to let it show
I tell myself that I can't hold out forever
I said there is no reason for my fear
Cause I feel so secure when we're together
You give my life direction
You make everything so clear
And even as I wander
I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window
On a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crushing through your door
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore
My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you
I've been running round in circles in my mind
And it always seems that I'm following you, girl
Cause you take me to the places that alone I'd never find
And even as I wander I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore

The worst concert I ever went to, if you can call it a concert, was Liona Boyd. I was so proud that I stayed awake till the end.
And I must say it, hope no one is offended. "Old time Rock n Roll" by Bob Seger drives me nuts. I do like old rock, I love it, but that song, oooooooooh! Like fingernails on a blackboard.

okay, about rap: most of the rap i have heard is NOT "beautiful poetry". This is not to say that ALL rap is horrible, but for the most part it sucks. Here are examples:
Don'cha wish you could git a date...wit a n***** wit a dick like a rattlesnake (i think the song is called "cobra")
twenty...inches...nothing...less (1)too much information, 2)yeah, right...
some song i hear 3 times in an hour at work.... he proceeds to name all the women he has had sex with -Keisha, teneisha, krysta, rhonda,sheron...or something like that
I like to fuck em in the ass while you beat up the pussy... oh sooo poetic!!
and seriously rap would gain a LITTLE more respect from me if they would pronounce the words correctly...i cant stand hearing ebonics, if that's what it is i'm hearing. (i'm not racist..i cant stand a lot of other accents either)
flow=floor, dough=door etc
mouf=mouth
birfday=birthday
witchew=with you

Ok, that band called Lite Funky Ones (LFO) - horrible name to start with, and the song is called Summer Girls -
Yeah...I like it when the girls stop by.. In the summer
Do you remember, Do you remember?
...when we met..That summer??
[Chorus]
New Kids On The block, had a bunch of hits
Chinese food makes me sick.
And I think it's fly when girls stop by for the summer, for the summer
I like girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch,
I'd take her if I had one wish,
But she's been gone since that summer..
Since that summer
[Verse 1]
Hip Hop Marmalade spic And span,
Met you one summer and it all began
Your the best girl that I ever did see,
The great Larry Bird Jersey 33
When you take a sip you buzz like a hornet
Billy Shakespere wrote a whole bunch of sonnets
Call me Willy Whistle cause I can't speak baby
Sumthin in your eyes went and drove me crazy
Now I can't forget you and it makes me mad,
Left one day and never came back
Stayed all summer then went back home,
Macauly Culkin wasn't Home Alone
Fell deep in love, but now we ain't speakin
Michael J Fox was Alex P Keaton
When I met you I said my name was Rich
You look like a girl from Abercrombie and Fitch
[Verse 2]
Cherry Pez,cold crush,rock star boogie
Used to hate school so I had to play hookie,
Always been hip to the B-boY Style
Known to act wild and make girls smile,
Love New Edition and the Candy Girl
Remind me of you because you rock my world
You come from Georgia where the peaches grow
They drink lemonade and speak real slow
You love hip hop and rock n roll
Dad took off when you were 4 years old
There was a good man named Paul Revere
I feel much better baby when you're near
You love fun dip and cherry Coke,
I like the way you laugh when I tell a joke
When I met you I said my name was Rich
You look like a girl from Abercrombie and Fitch
[Repeat Chorus]
Bridge In the summertime girls got it goin on,
Shake and wiggle to a hip hop song
Summertime girls are the kind I like,
I'll steal your honey like I stole your bike
[Verse 3]
Bugaloo shrimp and pogo sticks
My mind takes me back there oh so quick
Let you off the hook like my man Mr. Lipit
Think about that summer and I bug, cause I miss it
Like the color purple, macaroni and cheese,
Ruby red slippers and a bunch of trees
Call you up but whats the use
I like Kevin Bacon,but I hate Footloose
Came in the door I said it before,I think I'm over you
but I'm really not sure
When I met you I said my name was Rich
You look like a girl from Abercrombie and Fitch
repeat Chorus
[Bridge]
In the summer girls come and summer girls go
Some are worth while and some are so so,
Summer girls come and summer girls go
Some are worth while and some are so so,
Summertime girls got it goin on
Shake and wiggle to a hip hop song
Summertime girls are the kind I like
I'll steal your honey like I stole your bike
[Repeat Chorus]
I mean, what the hell? Thos lyrics are truly awful - When you take a sip you buzz like a hornet/ Billy Shakespere wrote a whole bunch of sonnets - wtf?
i always hoped they were taking the piss, because no-one could be that horrendous, and even if it is a piss-take, it's still terrible

The village people - YMCA ( almost makes me ashamed not to be straight )
Accept - Balls to the wall ( noooooooo! )
Some black metal band - Raping baby Jesus ( just because of the title, never heard the song. Makes me sad, angry and sick. Way below the belt.)
Limp Bizkit - Break stuff ( and the rest )
Most rap, r&b, hip hop, soul...

I agree with these people defending Rap. This is the MOST HATED SONG thread, not the MOST HATED GENRE, and man... I think it's turning into that. I'm personally a Grateful Dead and Panic fan, but I also like a lil' rap from time to time as well. I like it all, so what I'm gonna do is try to give a little history of Blacks and why rap even emerged in the first place.
Let's examine the economic status of Blacks in the late 60's and early 70's... Not too good eh? There was still a lot of progress to be made to end the racist institutions still in place as a result of a lot of racist people who were both conciously and unconciously racist. Whites had most of the power back then, although it was slowly beginning to balance out... kinda. Blacks were stuck with low wages, a bad image, and a lot of children afraid of these people that were doing what their parents were calling "insane" things in order to get equal rights. There was still a lot of fear between the two worlds, and just because someone was a civil servant, that didn't mean that they wanted to maintain the rights of the people they had been raised to be afraid of. Cops chickened out, to say the least, and stayed out of Black neighborhoods, and also Hispanic neighborhoods as well. Hence, crime began to flourish as some people ascended the social ladder, and still others were just pushed even further to the bottom.
With the abscense of law, gang-culture appeared, offering people a quick way out of the ghettos by offering protection from other gangs, as well as making a little money on the side by doing some drug trafficking. These gangs would go up and down the block, seeking recruits, and if they couldn't find volunteers, they took them. It wasn't that hard to do, because African American culture is very family oriented. They've been through a lot together through the years, and as a result, family ties are stronger in African American communities than most White communities. Why did people get so upset about people talkin' 'bout they mama? Well, imagine your mama has to pay Reggie $200 for "protection" so you don't get robbed from another gang? If you do these guys some favors as you get older, you don't have to pay, rather you "get paid." That's what drove a lot of these guys to do some of the things they did- so they could get paid and get their families out of the economic hell they had to struggle just to get by in.
We're not talking people just getting money to go rob a convenience store, no we're talking cocaine trafficking, extortion, murder, and all kinds of other things we can only dream of. This new generation was awed by the quick way out, so most times they were begging to get in, but in other cases, kids were basically robbed from their homes to start working for a gang, and then the mentality of a new family was engrained into their lives, mind, skin, and even their hearts.
Let's take TuPac Shakur for example... Who out there thinks Pac was actually a gangsta 'cause he wanted to be? He was a kid with as much potential as anyone else, but due to the area he lived in, he was trapped into this gang culture and came out a tragic victim. Why did he write all those violent, disturbing and controversial songs? Well kids, it's easy. THAT WAS LIFE FOR HIM. TUPAC WROTE ABOUT LIFE AS IT REALLY WAS FOR HIM. HE KEPT IT REAL. Keeping it real though, had it's price in a world of gangsters and gang love... Pac paid.....
Listen to Scarface's song "My Block." Does that sound like a lot of fun stuff to live through? Have you ever been at the bottom of the ladder and had to find humor in even the most attrocious circumstances? I have been, and I've had friends who have been too. My parents have some money now, and we are very fortunate to have it, but I've had my share of having to walk down the street at night and look for cover cause someone was driving down the street "too slow, so lay low."
I consider myself lucky to have lived where I did, because it taught me a lot about these different cultures we are so ignorant of in the U.S. Listen to any of the early rap, look at the Rodney King riots, listen to all of the stuff that came out before MTV got a hold of it and mass produced it. You do that, and although you may or may not still like rap, at least you'll understand it. Take a walk in the ghetto. You won't get shot, and go at night too. Walk your dog or do whatever so you can get some exposure to this different culture from what most people out there experience. Their's old people, young people, family love, laughter, good times, and also a lot of serious struggling and motivation to overcome the bullshit ol' Dubbyah keeps piling on them with the way our economy is. There's a reason for it all (with the exception of some of the MTV crap) so get out there and get educated! There's nothing worse than an ignorant hippie....
As for me, I would say the worst song ever would be Rancid's "Don't Call me White" with NOFX, although I still like Ruby SoHo...
Peace,
-Mac

Horrible covers. Piece of my heart-Faith Hill. Totally gutless delivery. Janis turned over in her grave when that load of crap came out.
Fever-Garth Brooks. I almost puked when I heard that song.
Who the hell does that If I were a rich girl song? A person would have to be EXTREMELY desperate to rip off a song from Fiddler on the Roof. They took a song about an unselfish wish for riches and turned into a song about vain materialism.

I see nobody has mentioned "Mouldy Old Dough" by Lieutenant Pigeon. Not really surprising as it is not worth remembering.A one hit wonder in the UK that stayed at number one for four weeks. I am not joking the title was the lyrics. The rest of the time was a piano solo with back up drums. If any of you young kids from the UK want to make your parents cringe you could ask them if they remember the "Mouldy Old Dough" hit single.
As far as anyone else having undeserved success , I would have to nominate Barry White. This fat, ugly man could not sing his banal lyrics.

Most of you people dont even know what "rap" is, so why are you all hating on rap. Its fake rappers like 50cent and Eminem that give rap a bad name because their rap is aimed at teenagers which is all about cussing, sex, killing and money... Rappers like Tupac R.I.P is when you see the real talent of rapping and the power behind words. Real rap is about reality.
"CRAZY FROG" ANTHEMS... I hate it so much, its my alarm clock ring tone because thats about the only tune which can wake me up to shut the alarm up!

i'm gonna go out on a limb her and say rap in all forms. because rap songs aren't really songs, songs have melody, they have harmony they have singing, rap is shouting/speaking to a beat at various speedsMusic is a way of expressing yourself with lyrics, beats..etc. Hmmm.
Music:an artistic form of auditory communication incorporating instrumental or vocal tones in a structured and continuous manner.
I think rap does this pretty well, I can understand why so many people do not like rap and thats because of all the fake artists out there. But real rappers are truely artistic in expressing their selfs and their views by playing with words. To be able to understand what rap is about first of all you must have a good understanding of the artist and their backround to be able to make sense with what they are saying or expressing in their music.
