I hired Silent Hill last week, let me assure you that it's nowhere near as bad as the film i watched last night, Evil Aliens. It's by the same guy who did Razorblade Smile, a bloody cheap and nasty goth-vamp-guns flick. There's some budget to this, but GOD it's so bad..!! Like watching Hollyoaks try their hand at Comedy Sci-fi Horror. Less subtle than a piano falling on you, and probably more painful.

Yeah, we looked at the cover and blurb etc for that, but thought it weren't even worth the £3.95 from Blockbusters to hire it out. Mind you, neither were any of the other films that were in the top titles (apart from Lucky Number Slevin and we saw that a couple of weeks ago). WTF is up with films these days? They must have run out of ideas or something...

It's been a DESPERATELY poor year or two, aye. I have been thinking exactly the same as you, i can only assume that it's Hollywood getting more and more conservative, and the Asian market getting more and more repetitive. It's a pretty poor show when you find that there's not even ONE film a week to hire from Blocky. Mind you, recently it's been more like one film a MONTH for me..! Although i keep procrastinating on Syriana, Goodnight and Goodluck, and Munich. I wanna see them, i don't wanna pay to see them.
Was Number Slevin any good? The trailer looked ok, but the name put me off a bit.
Oh, i watched Zombie Flesh Eaters 2 t'other night as well, that was so bad it was pretty funny actually! Still pissed off that i spent £6 on it though.
Wachted The Devils Rejects the other night.... seemed like pretty much every stereotype meant to scare (guy dressed as a clown, beautiful girl deadly with a knife, hairy older brother type who looked like he'd bugger his own mother) ... and that's all it was, stereotypical shite with a plotline that was like an ice cream van on a winters day (not worth the time following) ... to be avoided :p

Aye, surprisingly it was pretty good. Great plot, well shot and good cast. I loved it. There's clues everywhere. From what the cast say to the colours and props used in the scenes.

 I think 'The Devil's Rejects' is great! Did you know it was a sequel? 'Cause you may enjoy it more if you've seen 'House of 1000 Corpses'. '1000 Corpses' is a bit spoofy, I think purposefully ragging on the horror genre, but not in a 'Scary Movie' way - More of 'I love this genre, what's happened to it?' way.
I was quite suprised at how scary the family are in that first film. But strangely enough I became a wee bit attached to them in the second!
And the clown is just funny as fuck!
Captain J.T. Spaulding (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0354085/): What's the matter, kid? Don't ya like clowns?
Jamie (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1465268/): [shakes head crying]
Captain J.T. Spaulding (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0354085/): Why? Don't we make ya laugh? Aren't we fuckin' funny? You best come up with an answer, cos I'm gonna come back here and check on you and your momma and if you ain't got a reason why you hate clowns, I'm gonna kill your whole fucking family.
Jamie (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1465268/): [continues crying]
Captain J.T. Spaulding (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0354085/): All right, now get your fuckin' ass out the car, go on yayayayayaya
[starts laughing]
Captain J.T. Spaulding (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0354085/): Where the hell you goin'? Damn it. Don't you NEVER turn your back on a fuckin' clown when he's talkin' to you!
Haha!
Sorry - I thought the film was great and got myself a bit caught up in the hilarity :D - Otis is really funny too!...
Adam Banjo (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0854702/): Please, mister. This is insane.
Otis B. Driftwood (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0608405/): Boy, the next word that comes out of your mouth better be some brilliant fuckin' Mark Twain shit. 'Cause it's definitely getting chiseled on your tombstone.

To get back to the thread though :)
Haha, Devil's Rejects...Anyway!
My housemates last night watched M.Night Syamalan's first flick called 'Wide Awake' or something, that was a load of shite.
'The Day After Tomorrow' is rather awful.
Gosh, this is kinda hard actually. I'm scanning the shelves for bad flicks but for obvious reasons we don't seem to hae any! Not shelved anyway.
Watched 'Get Shorty' the other day, that was kinda bad.

Yeah, Unfortunately they lost all means of a plot in the second one. It sucked dick. The idea was great (A mixture of wedlock and saving private ryan) but it just didn't work.

V for Vendetta was great though
I've been looking at that film, but she's a protaganist character and therefore I don't know if I will be able to watch 2 hours of the evil that is Natalie Portman.

Well, yes, I suppose am I easily amused...Wouldn't say that was a bad thing though ;)
Honestly though, could you name those 12 flicks that have done 'the same thing' better?
And you know, some folk have been known to say that 'Scarface' was just a "gangster" cliche, but at the same time it was funny as hell with some amazing acting. Wether or not it's cliche the dialogue between the cast and the way they act it is pretty darn good! :)
Did you see '1000 corpses' aswell?

of course it's not a bad thing dude.... it's all in the eye of the viewer :)
Could i name a dozen similar movies.... probably, there were a mulititude of these shock-horror movies made in the 70's and early eighties, most of them got banned here on the UK on video (usually for which they were made)... i dunno if Rob Zombie was trying to emulate that style with DR, or simply trying to jump on the "retro-remake" bandwagon that seems to be in vogue in hollywood lately... presumably to make a quick profit at the box office.
I did see house of 1000 corpses, but i was kinda blazed at the time.... i do seem to remember it being more funny than DR ... of course that might have been due to the herbage...
Maybe i'll try DR again if i ever decide to get high again ;)

Devil's Rejects is set in the 70's I think, which is probably a nod to those shock-horror flicks you have in mind. Zombie must be a huge fan of the genre, so I doubt there's any money-making bandwagon-jumping going on http://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif
One point my friend and fellow DR fan made, was that it is pretty original to have the "good guys" (the police) being the antagonists in a horror picture. Obviously I'm getting a bit too deep with this here. But that's no run-of-the-mill thinking there.
I'm not trying here to change your mind or owt, just to be clear! I just have to defend DR in a thread about shit films http://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Hopefully raising it out of this here slum if just a little bit!

Jarhead was pretty crap I thought, shallow characters who have little development, little originality, except being a war film with no war in it - but this fails due to the lack of other elements to make the film interesting. Could have been the FMJ of the Gulf War, but wasn't....

"AI" by Steven Spielberg I remember being particularly crap, but have only managed to bring myself to watch it the once. I nearly walked out of the cinema.
Probably wasn't that bad of itself, but because it was associated with Stanley Kubrick I expected Spielberg to in some way raise his game, stick to Stanley's vision and pay tribute rather than just do a bloody big shit all over Kubrick's treatment with his trademarked fatuous and childish trash sentimentality. Argh.

Could have been the FMJ of the Gulf War, but wasn't....There are reasons for this. The movie did not exactly protray Marines in the best of lights, so thus I would suspect (though I don't know for fact) that they didn't get ANY military backing ... much like G.I. Jane. Films like Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down, Saving Private Ryan and such were all funded in part by the U.S. Military, and thus the scripts had to be signed off on. One of the MAIN reasons I put off watching those movies, until my British born husband told me I simply must see them.

V was excellent ... Highly recommend it.
Worst movies list:
The Avengers (wanted my money back!!!! - and I loved the TV shows)
Lost In Space (even though I love Gary Oldman, even HE thought it was bad)
The Ninth Gate (have watched it twice to drool over Depp, but ultimately sucked)
The Bone Collector (Denzel, Angelina, and Queen Latifah ... who knew it could go so wrong?)
Star Wars: Episode 1, Episode 2, and especially Episode 3 (*cold shivers*)
and it shouldn't have to be said, but....
Spice World (ugh, accidentally watched 2 minutes of this and thought my brain was going to fall out of my head)
Miike Takashi or Takashi Miike in English. He has directed things like Audition, Ichi The Killer, MPD Psycho etc :)Ichi The Killer is pretty good from what I have seen

If anyone has any self-respect at all they'll stay WELL clear of Ultraviolet. Even for fans of Milla Jovovitch, seriously. Worst film ever.
