So i was high last night and decided to turn on the ol boob tube, as i'm watching Law and Order SVU (dont have cable) it hit me just how many law enforcement television shows are on broadcast television:

COPS

This is exactly what I've been saying for a long time. This is one way that Americans get inculturated to look to the police and government for all the answers and solutions to all their problems. There's hardly a country in the world where the people idolize the lazy-ass, fascist, inept police as much as we do in America. People in most countries have a very healthy distrust of the police and courts. Not here.
The media definitely plays a big role in shaping people's attitudes about the subject. I personally think it is a dangerous trend that dumbs people down and causes them more and more to unquestioningly accept whatever the government throws at us next. I never watch any of that trash. I'd rather take a good nap instead.

lol..inever evenheard of most of those..maybe ushould turn off your tv?
theres only 2 shows on tv worth watching..south park..& the simpsons..
evgerything else will rot your brain
and..i dont think you quite get the message, its not somuch "trust authority" as yu suggested, especialy since on occassion i would imagine they also show the curruption in authority (i guess, i would never watch those so dont know 4 sure) but the real message is..watch out..stay in line..go against us & we will fuck up your life forever
i.e. smoke 1 joint..& go to jail..5 minutes of enjoying yourself will make you live in hell for the next 5 years...
but is this any more surprising then all the other shit they put on to distract you from paying attention to the crapin the world?
stuff like jerry springer & game shows & come on..football & wrestling?
think about it..if 3/4 of the world was nuked during the superbowl..who would notice? funny how they can make it seem like a stupid game matters in life..tothe point that people riot over the outcomes of games...games..think aboiut that..games are not important..at all..
really youye much better off gettin rid of your tv & just watching the ol hippy tv (sittin round a fire gettin high..drummin..& just watchinthe fire..try it..it stimulates thoughts instead of suppressing them)
watch a fire sometimne for 30 minutes..then afterwards look back & see how much thinking u did... repeat the process while watching almost any of the stupid crapon tv..& look back & aslkyourself..did i have 1 single thought in the last 30 minutes (i'm hungry..or i gotta take a piss..dont exactly count as thoughts..lol)

hahahaha......you live in a capalistic society they are only making a buck they make and play what the public wants...currently the population likes cops shows...most likely to see all those crimmals be punished something we do not see in real life with our crime rates being so high....the news always reporting someone or some child missing or murdered and with all of this fear after 9/11 also with the government telling how we must fight this great war on terror or else.....its causing alot of fear in the general population....
people watch tv to escape reality.........the tv networks are only filling a need

I'm in the process of weaning myself from the television.
Did you know that 30seconds into watching the boob tube, your mind literally becomes passive, switching from alpha and theta waves (left hemisperic brain work, analytical, reductionist,) to beta waves (right hemispheric brain work, passive, instinctual, feminine), all that information is soaked directly into your skull and subconsious without the benifit of real contemplation, unlike say reading book or magazine article. The more programes that you watch that depict law enforcement as the good guys that are the only thing standing between you and death, the more your brain is willing to accept that as reality and accept their unquestioned authority as neccesary.

It really is disgusting when you think about it. It blows my mind that some people will sit in front of the tube for 6,7, 8 hours a day sometimes.
Anybody that says t.v. is not brainwashing, is already brain washed.
How many times have you heard someone say "theres nothing good on tonight" But yet they'll sit there and flip through the stations over and over again....

I've read where the advent of photography and television played a major part in the success of the civil rights and sufferage movements. It is said that for too long we have relied on our left hemisphere to communicate with each other (written language instead of oral) and that there has been dire consequences as a result (oppression, reppression slavery, gender discrimination, fanaticism), now that the internet (less passive) has started to take the place of television we get the benifits of utilizing our right hemisphere more often in communication without the brainwashing effect...
In other words: books make you anal, television makes you dumb, the internet and PCs help restore your yin and yang to harmony

This is why I got good on classical guitar :p TV is a trap, just like everything else we have, to keep us from thinking freely about what's going on in the world, because what they show is all bullshit, or on the news : how man black kids got shot in crossfires in Philly tonight? Only 3? Well then we got nothin.
Also keeps us away from experiencing life and getting to know our own families

Also keeps us away from experiencing life and getting to know our own familiesVery true, but it is difficult to make that initial break from the mass media entertainment industry. A lot of my conversations with people start with them asking me if i'd seen this episode or that video, this new movie or that new song. I'm trying to focus more on myself and personal growth, but it's harder than you'd think to keep the TV off...

I know, it sucks, luckily the only people left that I see often, and whom I consider to be good friends, are older hippys. I have a few friends my age and they know better than to ask me about this crap because they know I hate it. I havent seen a movie in a theater since I was like, 18. Havent heard a new band in, well my whole life. A few good rap cd's are out that have a purpose, and this band Brazilian Girls came out last year, fuckin genius. Other than that, I'm pretty tuned out of the rest of the modern world. I rarely even use my pc at home to go online, this website is just a good place to talk to cool heads while Im working (or as I call it, multitasking) Im always having two conversations at once when I type at people here

I think the problem is that people are constantly looking to get more out of there life, wether it be entertainment (which it all is in some way) or whatever, but they turn off nature, experience, knowledge, and self progression, and they tune into somebody massaging they're brains to relax and turn off the problems or shortcomings they have.

Regarding the nature part of that, I live one block form the friggin' ocean-not a bad view of the waterfront. I keep trying to get just one human being to take a walk with me down to the waterfront to look at the water, watch the sun set, etc. Basically, all anybody wants to do is sit in front of the fucking boob tube and absorb some junk into their brains about how the silly-ass police are gonna solve all their problems. People are just glued to that mindless garbage. When I'm in contact with nature, I can think clearer and it keeps me in touch with why I'm here. Watching that junk continually on TV paralyzes their brains and just gives them more problems down the road, because it's destroying their ability to think critically and reason.

I wish I knew more people like you, and I wish I lived near a beach! I feel the same way as other people, like constantly searching to get more out of life, and it has pretty much come down to searching within myself, since so few seem to even desire talking about anything but mainstream crap, and also complain about how they have so many problems

TV is such a brain sucker! I hate all of those stupid cop shows. One of you said something about how they make people think that justice is served in real life from watching all of these contrived cop dramas. Good point! They are indoctrinating current and more importantly newer generations of America and the world to the police state we live in.
THERE IS A WAR ON FOR YOUR MIND! WAKE UP OR WACO!

Ordinarily I'd agree in part with your conspiracy theory of brainwashing, but the trend towards Law Enforcement oriented programs began as far back as the 1970s
Starsky & Hutch, Charlie's Angels, Colombo, The Rookies, S.W.A.T., Police Woman, Kojak, Barnaby Jones, McCloud, Cannon, Hawaii 5-O, Barretta,....etc...the list is far too numerous to mention.

You are assuming that i am only talking of recent mass mental conditioning.
The study i mentioned earlier took place in the first 1/2 of the 20th century and the man who oversaw it become the head of GE. They've been massaging our skulls for a while, and getting better at it as the years go on... Remember those fake news programs? How about the when movie theaters used to be able to slip frames of buttery popcorn into a movie in order to boost concession sales? This isn't the result of one admin, it's the result of the furtherence of the industrial-technological system and it's been happening for a long time. My opinion anyway.

Yes, it's brainwashing propaganda! The FBI set guidelines for hollywood in the 1930's, the criminal always gets caught and crime doesn't pay. Never will you see a show were the criminal gets away! We know that in real life there are those who beat the cops and get away. This is a form of government CONTROL. They want to tell you what to think! This is why I never watch any of that garbage!

Hey, that's one of my favorite shows!
RealTV, drama, horror, comedy, action, adventure, it really happens in real life, so instead of watching someone else do it on a box, get out there, tune in your brain and thoughts, and give it a whirl, go people watching, watch em fall, fight, hug, hurry, look goofy, etc. They will rarely notice your organic camera is on and tuned into their station. Benches in a busy downtown make for a perfect movie theatre, so go get a bucket of popcorn, a soda, and some 3d glasses and take a stroll to the nearest downtown bench and watch the foolish humans hustle and bustle, quite amusing, and if youre wise and know the art of movie making, you can even participate, play a role in someone elses movie, open the door for them, strike up a conversation, wish them a blessed day etc. etc.
I want to make a correction to his list. Smith is a show about criminals. They're theives. And so far they've gotten away with it each week.
Just the facts, maam.

I realized that even Tom and Jerry was brainwashing on saturday mornings. You have this straight edge citizen trying to do good (the mouse). HE is prtrayed as walking tall with his chin held high. Then you have this mischievious villain aka the cat that chases after the mouse. Just before the cat gets the mouse the mouse runs into the dog who not so coincidentally holds up a badge blows a whistle and says "Trust in me when you're in need" And throws the cat out so the mouse can walk with his head held high again... How's that for brainwashing kids since the early eighties....

i may only be 16 and think i know it all, but i think you guys are focusing on all- the negatives with this t.v. brainwashing. i think there are a "few" t.v. showz that can be insightful or thought provoking, last night i saw this show called "the boy whose skin fell off" with this 36 y.o. man with cancer whose entire bodied was scarred for his whole life. i cought it half way in. but i figured they put this on to make people feel better about there selves which i think they do with jerry springer, by putting someone whose ill, or a meth addict it will make you think everythings good with your life and you need not to worry about your own problems. which is bad for your personality i believe, but i listened to what this man was saying and looked passed feeling sorry for him and he i found this man was a better person than a lot of us couch potatoes only because he had this disease and he felt the only way out of it was through spiritual connection with god, but i bet if he wasnt born with this disease he could be just as bad and power hungry as someone like me or you. i might have gotten off the topic but the point im trying to make is that if you watch some of these t.v. shows with an open mind you might come out with a bit of knowledge or insight, as long as you dont take sides based on your views and the views of of the people who wanted to film this to make us feel better about ourselves. i hope people are still reading this forum sorry if what i said didnt make much since or my views still seem narrow. peace
