This is an idea stolen from Moominpappa, wherever he may be...

It's a twist on the familiar format... it's word association with films, the last letter of the film before has to be the first letter of the next film (eg Amelie -> Eraserhead -> Dune).

BUT in addition you have to mention why it is you like the film, a brief summary, or what makes it stick out in your memory. Where/when did you first see it? An actor/actress? An image?

To kick off, Amelie...

http://www.hollywoodjesus.com/movie/amelie/04.jpg

I probably only watched it because of the gorgeous Audrey Tautou... that's enough reason to watch it I think ... but I was awestruck by Jean-Pierre Jeunet's fantastic film, it has such spirit. Plus it's set in Paris, a city where I did my growing up...

Next letter, E...

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0001IXU1W.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Sticks in my spotless mind for three actor based reasons.

1) Like the Truman Show, this film made me see that Jim Carey can actually play different roles.

2) It's a film with Kate Winslett, and she didn't get her tits out.

3) Elijah Wood's a whiney little bastard with a silly accent. Go back to the Shire where you were cool!

Dawn of the Dead (original 1978 version)

This is one of my favourite films, something I return to again and again. The atmosphere of isolation as they set up their castle in the consumer paradise of the shopping mall with the chaos of the world kept at bay outside, the friendship that develops between the two ex-soldiers. It's a lovely film, it tells of how life should be...

Dog Soldiers

Slightly amusing werewolf film that reminds me why the British army is full of degenerates....

Swingers ...

With Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, a great little film about being a loser with girls, it's very funny and it perfectly captures what it's like to be no good at the whole relationship thing, as well as the nature of male friendship:)

Seven Samurai - Akira Kurosawa 1954

A masterpiece, very gritty, portraying the brave, cowards, the weak and inner strength in stark outline. A truly moving experience for anyone.

I Robot

http://www.dailycollage.com/collages/i_robot/i_robot_02_thumb.jpg

Always love a good Will Smith film, he rocks. Plays on those Three Laws of robotics that have become a staple of sci-fi, and turns them into a half-decent idea for robot revolution, before backtracking and having an evil computer be the cause instead. Tried and tested forumla, maybe a bit tired, but still entertaining. Too much CGI though, film makers these days just can't be bothered with real sets it seems....

O Brother Where Art Thou?

Brilliant and intricate comedy by the Coen brothers. Has an absolutely fantastic soundtrack of bluegrass and old-timey country. Also spawned the film "Down From the Mountain" which is a concert documentary where the artists perform the songs from the soundtrack live.

AND, fact fans, it was the first major feature film ever to be edited and printed entirely from a Digital Intermediate, with no negative cutting for the cinema release printshttp://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/smilies/sunglasses.gif

Underworld

http://www.sonypictures.de/landing/underworld-evolution/images/start_bg.jpg

Notable for the sizeable gap between its potential and what it delivers. Probably the worst werewolf film AND the worst vampire film I've seen, all in one! Kate Beckinsale can act, but she's crap in this, a real let down. And I just can't believe Bill Nighy in the role of evil vampire lord, pathetic comic drunk saddo Slartibartfast perhaps, but not that....

"ET Phone Home!" - A line quoted by a generation.

Another good one:

"Can't you just beam him up or something?"
"This isn't Star Trek!"

La Vita e Bella (Life is Beautiful)

An extraordinary film by Italian comedian Roberto Benigni. An Italian Jew and his adopted son are sent to a concentration camp during WW2. The child is too young to understand what's going on, so the man turns the whole experience into an exciting game for the child. Moving and hilarious in equal measures, and quite a dificult subject for a film, but I think it's pulled off very well. If you get a chance, watch this film:)

Gosh....'W' is a tricky one...

I have no pictures to back up my suggestion as any I may post will probably send hipforums crashing to its knees. Size wise, you get me :D

Anyway, I was torn...Willy Wonka sprang to mind, but for me it was to be 'The Wizard Of Oz'....My reasons? Who needs reasons when you have heroin...Wait, that was another film...Hell, it's 'Wizard of Oz'! What more needs saying?

Okay...The song...Follow the yellow brick road.

The Terminator

http://www.norcalblogs.com/bullfight/archives/terminator.jpg

It's such a classic. Both Terminators one and two had brilliant plots. The part was perfect for a wooden Arnie, but even his poor acting skills couldn't ruin such a great film. I thought the third was a big let down though....

Young Sherlock Holmes

I remember going to see this in the cinema at the age of 10! The scene where the chubby kid gets poisoned and starts hallucinating all these pastries that come to life and start attacking him really fucking freaked me out:stunned:
