Well , here on the mountain just past the kudzu patch we have decided to make us a hillbilly habitat. .an original old fashioned cabin in the mountains ,, a real piece of americana, an old fashioned barn (cabin) raising...
We have just taken on the task of building us a tried n true rustic cabin in the woods.. ....other than the use of a modern day chain saw, we are building the whole thing as it was done in the old days. .We have begun cutting down trees and cutting them into the proper lengths we will be needing for construction. .today we also began to strip the bark from the trees....
Now here comes the good part...;)
We are looking for folks to come and help us out in our endeavor.. Folks that would like a taste of the mtns of north GA.. Folks that may want to take a break from every day life and enjoy nature and help us to build a hillbilly habitat.. Folks that would like to come spend a few days building what to us is part of our legacy here... To help build a communal type place for hippies , travelers and hikers to come and hang out, get a break and get a feel for what good old mountain homesteading is about...
We cant offer to pay folks at this point in time for their efforts. However, with love ,kindness and some good old homestyle cookin and with some hard work by all, We will build ourselves a haven for folks for years to come when they just need a get away or way station...
Anyone interested in coming and helping us out please send me or hippyhillbilly a pm or sumthing and we will get directions and more info to ya...
luv n lite,

That is so cool, Dilli--I always wanted a place like that too. I remember when I was a kid wondering why the hell the Beverly Hillbillies would leave that awesome cabin they lived in to go to that stupid mansion. I loved the little cabin they built out in back for Granny.
I sure wish I could help...oh, by the way, I get to stop wearing my brace indoors next week, and only have to wear it out on uneven ground. Too bad I wasn't that well healed when I was down there. I'll try not to get any surgery next summer, though.

so glad to hear you are doing better with yourt knee,,, you seem to be progressing quite rapidly even with your obstacles you have had along your way to recovery....
pack a bag n come sit on a log and scrape with us angel momma,,, would love to have ya back,,,, before next summer even:)
this lil log cabin thing has always been my sorta dream house,, tis what i always have wanted, to go back to 1867 ;) nix the electric n such and have the oneness with nature that i was meant to have,,,,, we are putting it where hhb has always wanted to build a house, since a real mansion house lol is out of the picture at this point in time we are gonna give this a go for and see what we come out with even though it isnt something i will be in full time,, since eventually we would like to have travelers n folks passin thru and using it,,,, but anywho this will be our experiment and see how we can do ,,, until we really do have to pack up head west and completely go whole hog outta civilization...

Heya Dilli & HHB,
How's the zoning out your way - do you have to put down a footer ? are you going for wooden flooring ? - using logs for joists ?
God I wish we had our scene better together so we could come down and give you all a hand - love what you're doing
Do you have to let the logs season ? Draw shaves can be pretty expensive unless you find them used or make them yourselves (out of leaf springs)
More power to both of you - keep the energy flowing.

zoning??? ;)
um we doin it in real hippy hillbilly fashion,,, putting it on skids so it can move a foot or two if needed, therefore it isnt a permanent structure and the zoning wont affect it.....:p
everything is going to be log,,,
yes it is better to allow the wood to season, however as hillbillies,,, we doing it the old old way n scraping throwing it togetherand chinking it,,, then when it has seasoned do the chinks again,,, hel iffin we can get this one up and functional maybe we will build 10 or 12 more all on skids n just spend a day every other week jockeying cabins round...
right now we be using a machete,,,, which seems to work fairly well ,,, we are looking for a scraper but yes they are hard to come by,,,,
any who thanks for the thoughts and iffin yall get any way ward travelers heading south ,,, sendum on to us and we will do same for your situation there iffin we know of anyone heading up that away ...

I can still only bend my knee halfway, but it is healed well. I no longer have to wear the brace at home, so that's good.
You all will definitely see me before next summer if I get bad news from the doc about the lump under my arm, but if it turns out not to be a bad tumor, it will probably be summer before I can get there. I'll let you know what happens.
I do wish I was there. I'm happy for you.
Angel
I caught this message and one in Random and I shall keep you in my thoughts as I know the fear and hope and the turmoil that you must be feeling now.
I hope with all that I am that this is just one of those benign lumps. I shall wait to hear from you the results but want you to know that you are thought of and will spin what light I can for you.
Take care of you!

yes angel do let us know what is going on with you,,, we r worried and wondering whats up with you as well
we had a good productive mornin today and got 13 more logs peale d of bark,,, that makes it about half of the wall logs are done.. worked on cleanig up some of the down brush and piled it up and salvaged whatever other hunks of wood we could for firewood and stacked that sorta as well... next weekend we prolly wont work on much other than maybe cutting down a few more trees,,hhb n i are going camping n day hiking for a couple days for my burpday and some alone time ..;)
I have to hand it to you guys, it's something I used to talk about doing but it never amounted to more than talk. If Georgia was Oregon I'd stop by and help out. Hope it turns out great!

Now should both you and Dillyi live in there, good friends you must be and stay, lest you had another place to go.
Seems like a great way to learn to Love fully the other and yerself as well.
And for 1 what a wonderful little hermitage - Waystation to recoup along the Way.
Communal meals I hope...

ahhhhhhhhhhhh old wolf,,, we get along great actually, even now we r just in a 30 ft long tin can ,,, and the rest of our time is spent pretty much working and we work n ride side by side through it all,,,, generally only a couple days a month where i just plain dont like him much and even then i only escape about two hundred yards in the opposite direction of the cabin,,,
n yes the whole cabin thing is goin to be more of a way station, pit stop getaway place and yes communal meals,
nope nothing will stop us and when this is finished we are already looking into what will be next built in my escape spot,,,then i shall find me a nutha one...
will post more updates when we gottem,,

the cabin after our third saturday of building it... as you can tell it is a verrrrrrry slow and altho not real hard work it is tedious and sorta boring in a way ,,,, but all in all we are happy with the progress we are making on it and will continue workin on it til it is done and we are beginning to plan the next project albeit on a bit smaller scale

Wow!! I'm really impressed!! The cabin looks so awesome, I wouldn't mind staying there at all. A few months ago, my ex took me to a cabin in the woods for the weekend. It's not like what yours will be because it had working water, toilet, etc.. But log cabins totally rocks and I would really love to experience the old days.
It's been over a month since our last update, we want another picture!

well sorry we been so long with out an update,,,, but a few weeks back the young buck here beat katey mae up and then she was in the hospital and we been dealing with the legal system bunches,,, anywho things on the cabin had to come to a screechin halt for a few weeks however, hopefully here in next couple weeks we will get back to workin on it... in the mean time i will post the latest pics we took before or lil hiatus ...

this is a view of the sunsetting just today when i was up taking pics of the cabin,,, this was taken from just out the front door of it
http://www.hipgallery.com/photopost2/data/500/289DSC00223.JPG
here is the front of the cabin up to where we are now at..... where the beams n such are is where we will make the loft area ...

view from the backside of the cabin as of now....
http://www.hipgallery.com/photopost2/data/500/289DSC00227.JPG
looking down into the cabin and where the floor will be from where the loft will be....
there hope this keeps everyone satisfied for a lil bit ttil we can get back out into the woods and work on it more.... unfortunately with all that been going on and missing work the almighty dollar has to take precedent over the fun projects for a lil while til we can catchi things back up to where they need to be in order to stay in line with all our other goals for ourselves.... ah well such is life,,, but i must say we really do miss working on it,,, and have all agreed that as soon as we can we will be back at it

What a lovely cabin, y'all have done well.. nothin' is worth nothin' unless there is hard work involved. When an idea is born, it's thrilling, but when that idea is transformed from thought to action by the doing of it, it becomes part of you and lives and breaths inside the being of it. lol,,i believe that would be the smoke from a cigarette..
but to answer your question. yes we have many spirits that roam the property.less than 10 miles from here was one of the internment camps for the trail of tears.
you havent lived till youve paused during a drum circle and realized there was drums and chanting still going even though no one was playing anymore..
oh and the lady in white even comes in the house on occasion although she prefers to hang out down in the hollow by the creek. we dont think she is cherokee and she seems happy enough but shes definetly a ghost..lol

thanks.. and yes riff raff the cabin is done now except for a bit of trim i need to get done..
its just a tedious process of chiseling logs and fitting and refitting. patience isnt one of my finer points but it will get done..
i will have to find the pics and i will post them ..
in the mean time there is a whole album of them here
http://www.kodakgallery.com/feelfreefarmproject

What is the trail of tears?
Your place intrigues me so!

,, the trail of tears was when they rounded up all the native americans and took them west, killing torturing them etc in the process... The internment camp nearby was where they initially gathered them up before herding them out .. This area had a very large cherokee population
you n the family should come up some time for a spell marie... we aint that far away :)

I would adore that. I would also love to put the kids to work so they could see how easy they have things:)
I'll have to look at their school schedules and see when it would fit in.
I've never seen a ghost. But I might stick around for a bit after that sort of torture too:( So many have suffered in their lives. Makes me feel very grateful for my life thus far.

That shelter kicks ass. I didn't realize the dead leaves were poisonous to insects. Man I have so much to learn in this world.
He said "looks like hard work" or something along that line. I didn't think it looked that hard. But do wonder about finding so many large branches. Also...that bed did not look comfy to me in the least;)
I'd really love to make it down. I have wanted to for years. Speaking of which, Angelgodiva just popped into my head. Do you guys speak with her anymore?

dilli again,,
we have not heard anything in over two years whatsoever... i tried calling a long ways back n phone was no longer in service. i dunno what happened with her but i dont think if something did happen and she passed anyone in her presence would notify us ...:(
no that bed doesnt look comfy lol,,, i am thinking i could improve that bit ,,, i hope.. we shall see how hard it is lol,,, its another one of my ideas :P
