This is an example of a Yin thread, so I'm going to use it to rant about something that makes me angry.
Police. They really get my goat sometimes. And it's not because I've been arrested before, that was my own silly fault. But I hate what they represent. Take demonstrations for example. I hate how insidious the police can be. And not just the examples where they agitate fights from within to undermine the weight of the issue. Every time I've come back from a massive anti-war demonstration, I've been angry to see how the police have blatantly lied about the numbers. I asked a police officer why they did that, and he said that it didn't matter whether there were 100,000 or 2 million on a demonstration, that it's not an issue I should worry about. I argued very strongly back that every single person matters. Each one is a voice and for the police to lie about numbers like that, they are undermining many many people's democratic voices - writing them out of the history books. But he just didn't seem to get it- he was more concerned about Saddam bombing his kids - sure! It's just ridiculous.
I don't really think all police are bastards, of course. I know that under that uniform there is something that's vaguely similar to a human being. They can get a hard time at festivals and the like, when they'd probably much rather be having a good time themselves. But still, despite a few good apples, the majority of police officers I've met have irked me.
It's like they're mini-Hitlers, relishing the enforcement of laws that are, in many cases, unjust. ASBOs for example. Someone was telling me how his son was given an ASBO for starting a fight in a pub. That meant that if he went in a pub in the next year, he would go to prison for a month; which is precisely what happened. Fair enough, arrest someone for starting a fight - but ASBOs turn non criminal activities into a crime. People have even been given ASBOs for anti-war protests. It's disgusting.
What do you think?
So that's an example of a Yin - why not make some Yin threads yourself or, if you're on a high, have a go at a Yang.
