Stop the War along with CND and Child Victims of War are organising a week of events in London called "Seven Days for Iraq".

The week of fundraising events will be held during the first week of November to raise money for Medical Aid for Iraq and for the continued campaign against the war. In particular we are hoping to raise enough money to fund and equip a rehabilitation centre for children in Falluja. Hundreds of children who survived the US siege and massacre of April 2004 remain wounded and traumatised and without medical or psychological care. This would be the first children's rehabilitation centre to be built in Iraq and will be a gift from the people of Britain in memory of those who were killed and injured by the UK bombing of Falluja's market place in 1991.

The week will include a classical music night, a rock night, an art auction, a poetry night, a photo exhibition, and a reading of the names of those who lost their lives in Iraq since the US and UK led invasion. The reading of the names of the dead will be on the night of the US election (2nd November) and will be held somewhere in the vicinity of Trafalgar Square. The evening will culminate in a candlelit vigil outside Downing Street. We will be inviting relatives of those who have lost their lives in Iraq to join the reading and the vigil.

We are encouraging STW Groups across Britain to stage their own events and contribute to the fund. In particular we would like groups across Britain hold readings of the names of the dead on Tuesday 2nd November. As there are thousands of names it would be a good idea to co-ordinate this event all across the country. It will be a powerful and moving event.

Please let the office know as soon as posible your planned events so we can advertise them on the website. We welcome any ideas or feedback about the "Seven Days for Iraq" so don't hesitate to contact us in the office.

We would appreciate volunteers in the London area to help out with these events. Please contact Francesca on 020 7053 2155 to see how you can get involved.
