How could I convince my parents to let me try dreadlocks? I am not a Rasta, but I really like them. I already know how they "are a whole lifestyle" and "they don't happen overnight". If I just washed my hair with water and nothing else, and never combed it, would I get dreads? What are some good tips and products for dreads.
And even though I am not a Rasta: "Jah Love!" hehe http://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

You probably would get more answers here (http://hipforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=209) . There's even a thread about parents, and everyone will be glad to help you with your questions. See you there!:)

Wait until you go to college and then find someone to dread your hair for you. When you arrive back home for your first visit, make sure to have a solid report card in your hand.

Are you REALLY 32 and needing your parents permission????? :oNo, I am actually allowed on here ( the age limit is 13). It's just for safety. There are some on here who are psychotic. Hehe, you know who you are!

You would need to find someone who could actually dread your hair for you. Natural dreads as you've talked about, can take years to form. If any of your friends or someone you know can do it, ask them. It'll take a few hours, and then there's a lot of upkeep. Dreads are quite a comitment.
And as for your parents... I would suggest sitting down and talking to them about it like adults. I don't know your parents, but as long as you show that you're ready for dreads, then I'm sure they'll be good about it.
Good luck. :)
