View Full Version : Lifetime Supporter!
Recently we introduced a new Lifetime Supporter Membership here on the forums. For the measly sum of US$50, you can become a lifetime supporter, and won't need to worry about renewing your subscription each year.
Lifetime supporters get even more storage space, basically unlimited (just ask for more!). So you'll never run out of PM or gallery space.

as always someone is probably gonna claim 'money grab' but it sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.

well that would be shitty, but maybe skip doesn't anticipate a shitload of growth ? who knows
haha and then a month later... hipforums... closes...After 10 years, I'm just gonna close it? Esp. when everyone including insanejester is gonna throw money at it? And miss my chance at being richer than Bill Gates! LOL! ;)

Is this an LLC...?Nope, we're a corporation. hehe... ;)
We play by "their" rules. I believe in working within the system (to a degree).

If OnOff had send the money becoming a lifetime supporter, would he have be banned just because he posted something that unpleased drumminmama ??
Or in case of ban the money is devolved ??
you are the webmaster, you have access to all the posts (even the deleted ones), you can judje for yourself...
I'm sure if someone becomes a lifetime supporter they're not going to jeopardize that by violating our guidelines.
Someone who'll violate our guidelines at a whim, is unlikely to want to support the site at all, much less become a lifetime supporter.
Supporting the site doesn't mean you no longer need to follow our guidelines. Nobody is immune from banning, including mods.

love n lightHard to answer that one HH. That was a long time ago, and since then we've sponsored a good number of ppl who couldn't afford to pay the subscription dues thanks to your generosity and that of others. So I guess you could say that money is long gone.
This offer is something new to encourage new and longer subscriptions...

Skip an LLC is a corporation. I co-own one!
It's a limited liability corporation (so if I get sued they cannot take my paintings, car, music collection or anything else of value that belongs to me separately from the production company. They can take paintings still in inventory, however.)
Actually an LLC is a limited liability COMPANY. It's not a full corporate entity. The whole point of making a corporation is that you create a fictious entity that then has its own rights according to the law.
By playing their game, we are protected by their laws. Corporations seem to have MORE freedom & rights to do things in America than most people.

It helps keep this url open on an anual basis. Plus Skip giving of his own time, and the somewhat knowledgable staff. It's worth the $50.
I'll remind ppl here that it's only $10 for an annual membership, cause I know many ppl can't afford $50 (esp. these days!). So you can always check it out before becoming a lifetime member.

Well, you all will be happy to know that I am slowly coming out of the financial dumps and will be able to donate to the Forums this week or next.
Thanks for all your moral support.
New Perk!
For those who opt for a lifetime membership, we now are offering IP# masking!
Yes, lifetime members will no longer have their IP# numbers recorded in the forum database. Instead a fake IP# will be added to every post.
IP#s will still appear in site logs (which we never view and are expunged after a couple of days). IP#s are usually viewable by our supermods and admins, but they cannot view those of lifetime supporters anymore because the real IP# is never recorded.
Of course this is NO guarantee that your postings are completely anonymous as IP# records exist at your hosting company and can be recorded at many places on the Internet.
I also can't guarantee that other agencies aren't monitoring traffic to our server from various points along the way. Our server is in Amsterdam, so the Dutch have authority over it. So far I have no information about any monitoring going on there, but again I don't know what governments are monitoring and recording these days as they tend to keep that a secret...
At least if our records are ever seized, those who are lifetime supporters won't have their IP#s in our database.
The reason we are only offering this service to lifetime supporters is because we have little to fear from people who donate so much to the site. They're not likely to spam or violate our guidelines so we really don't need to worry about their IP#s. The same cannot be said for all members and all supporters.

is this automatic - the ip masking, that is, or do i have to do something other than ust shell out the fifty bucks?
Nope, nothing you have to do, it's automatic and retroactive. :)
BTW, even though Ip#s are included in our site logs (for a couple of days), the actual content of posts is not (obviously), so it would be nearly impossible to track an individual post thru those logs without already knowing the IP# in question.
The only times we might view site logs are when we have problems with hackers, spammers or other unusual activity on the site. In practice I look at a site log (not necessarily this site) maybe twice a year.
I know the EU has required its member countries to keep records on all electronic activity for a long period - like a year or two. I'm not sure if all the member countries have implemented this, as I know some didn't like that rule.

So Skip, you know how we get the the thumbs-up symbol if we're just a regular supporter? Well, will that be used for lifetime supporters also or will there be a different symbol? Don't know if it would be logical(tedious?) in the programming department to change it, but I think it would be cool to offer a different one to lifetime supporters.
Something kinda like this would be cool:

Lace, I was going to use that but then I realized it's like an American flag, but this site isn't just about Americans. Otherwise it would be cool! :0)

How about that symbol with a peace sign background instead of the US flag? That would look pretty cool I think....

you have to be a site supporter to change your Avatar. Or Customize it.

you know Skip I asked this same question once before I was a supporter, then low and behold, you changed the site and I lost my provided avatar..
and I wasnt to happy.. But too so many others had the same avatar and its seems silly, but I didnt want to post after a person with the same avatar as to the ones you provided. IDK.. Just thought Id mention it. Since you didnt add the "wet cat"... or some of the others.. But I was much more happy supporting the site as should some of you too...
PLEASE<< I mean if Avatars are your only issue you can upload your own for 15 buck... Surely its worth that much to you...
