International Animal Rights Gathering 2004, Tonbridge 3-6th September

Venue: Tonbridge, United Kingdom
Date: 3rd-6th September, 2004

UK animal rights campaigners are extending an invitation to animal rights activists around the world to attend the 2004 International Animal Rights Gathering in September. It is being organized by experienced grassroots campaigners for the benefit of people new to the animal rights movement and to facilitate networking of people and groups.

Organiser Henry Calloway said, "There is a vast variety of experience of skills and experience in the animal rights movement. This is our way of bring them together with people willing to use them for the benefit of the animals."

The gathering is open to everyone with a desire to participate in grassroots action against animal abuse in all its forms. The main focus will be on people new to animal rights, though there will be plenty of scope for the more experienced activists as well, especially to network and pass on their knowledge.

There will be a large number of workshops providing practical skills and advice for activists of all stripes. If you are able to offer a workshop please get in touch ASAP.

Complementing the workshops will a number of respected animal rights speakers, including activist Rod Coronado, trauma surgeon and campaigner Jerry Vlasak, and the academic Steve Best who has written on the animal liberation movement. Also talking will be Ronnie Lee and Mike Nunn, two people fundamental in creating the modern grassroots AR movement.

In the evenings, there will be showing of videos from campaigns around the world, and people are encouraged to bring their own.

Henry Calloway continued, "It will be an excellent forum for people to learn about what is going on in the animal rights movement globally and how they can best help the animals. These are exciting times, and the gathering will be a celebration of what we have achieved so far and getting ready to achieve in the future."

The gathering will take place on several fields in South East England, all will have all necessary amenities. Food will be provided by Veggies. There is plenty of camping space, though as it is intended to be accessible to everyone who wants to come, organizers are looking into sorting out nearby B&Bs for the weekend. If you are interested in coming and would prefer a B&B it is important that you get in touch as soon as possible as an idea of numbers is required. Access to the gathering is free, though donations are gratefully accepted to help with the maintenance of the site.

Please do not bring cameras, dictaphones, etc as they will only cause offense; likewise if you are bringing food, please keep it vegan. Journalists and animal abuse supporters are not welcome.

The gathering is being supported by a number of grassroots campaigns including the following: SHAC, SPEAK, Morini, SNGP, Covance Campaign, HSA, BPRC, LAA
