WHEN LIGHT UP SNEAKERS WERE KOOL

When you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs.

When gas was $0.95 a gallon & Caller ID was a new thing.

When we recorded stuff on VCRs & paid $3.50 for a movie.

When we called the radio station to request songs to hear off our walkmans.

When 2Pac and Biggie where alive.

When the Chicago Bulls were the best team ever.

Way back..........

Tag.

Hide-n-Go Seek at dusk.

Red Light, Green Light.

Heads Up 7 Up.

Playing kickball & dodgeball until your porch light came on.

Hopscotch.

Slip-n-Slides.

Tree Houses.

Hula Hoops.

Skip-its.

Reading R.L. Stine's Goose Bumps.

The annoying Nano Pets & Furbies.

Running through the sprinklers.

Crying when Mufasa died in the Lion King.

Happy Meals where you chose a Barbie or a Hot Wheels car.

Getting the privelage to sit in the front seat of the car.

Drinking Sqeeze It "Squeeze The Fun Out Of It."

But wait....

Watching Saturday Morning Cartoons in your PJ's still wrapped up in your Garfield comforter.

Hey Arnold, Doug, Rugrats.

The original Power Rangers

Or what about....

The Secret Life of Alex Mac.

Ren & Stimpy.

Double Dare.

Rocko's Modern Life.

AAAHH!! REAL MONSTERS.

Wild & Crazy Kids.

Clarissa Explains it All.

Salute Your Shorts.

Are You Afraid of the Dark?

The original cast members of All That.

Kenan & Kel.

The Magic School Bus.

Flash Forward.

Pete and Pete.

Legends of the Hidden Temple.

Hey Dude.

Dinosaurs.

Pinky and the Brain.

Blossom.

Hangin' With Mr. Copper.

Wishbone.

Bill-Nye the Science Guy.

Kablamm.

Smurfs

My Little Pony

Rainbow Brite

Thunder Cats

Who could forget Snick? & Nick @ Nite with Bewitched, I Dream of Jeanie, The Facts of Life, & I Love Lucy.

Where everyone wanted to be in love after watching The Wonder Years.

Or Nick Jr. with Face.

Gulah-Gulah Island.

Little Bear.

Under the Umbrella Tree.

The Busy World of Richard Scary.

The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

Kool-Aid was the drink of choice.

Wearing your new shoes on the first day of school.

Class field trips.

When Christmas was the most exciting time of year.

When $5 seemed like a million, & another dollar a miracle.

When you begged to go to McDonalds for dinner everyday.

When Toys 'R' Us overuled the mall.

Go back to the time when.....

Argument's were only started when it came to who was gonna be the redranger.

Decisions were made by going 'eeny-meeny-miney-moe'.

Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming 'do over!'

'Race issue' meant arguing about who ran the fastest.

Money issues were handled by whoever was banker in 'Monopoly'.

It wasn't odd to have two or three 'best' friends.

Being old referred to anyone over 20.

A chance to skate as a couple at the local roller rink was like winning the lottery.

Scrapes & bruises were kissed & made better.

It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride the 'big people' rides at the fair.

When playing Nintendo was the hardest thing ever.

When Ninja Turtles ruled the world.

When Lisa Frank was the raddest thing ever.

When a candy bar at the grocery store was the highlight of your day.

When coupons collected all year could get you a prize in your class auction.

When the only thing you cried over was your mom being late to pick you up.

When stress was addition and subtraction.

When friendships were as complicated as who's house to sleep over.

When shaving cream was just meant for play.

When a first kiss only lead to cooties.

When Valentines Day meant cards for all.

When birthdays were a class event.

When a friend moving away was the saddest day of your life.

When the summer lasted forever.

When time didn't matter.

These were the days we hadn't realized escaped us until it's all brought back.

Repost if these things mean something to you, and you get the personal images of when you were a kid.

90's flashback time. I miss not being held accountable for what i say

my childhood wasn't the happiest time in my life, though i wasn't abused or anything like that, and least not intentionaly or other then mentaly.

but there are things about the times i was a child in that i miss about them sure.

i haven't yet lived in a time when there weren't things that were better about times both before AND after, and yet at the same time things that were good about that time too. and i don't expect there ever will be either.

the 90s? hell that was just last week wasn't it? you mean it's been another decade already? the 80s were pretty screwed except for giving us these computers like we have now. of course anyone who wasn't already at least in highschool by 1970 can't be expected to realize that i guess. and i started highschool in 62 and graduated in 66. so i was right in the middle of the 60s and 70s except i lived mostly up in the hills.

i guess that must be why i was clear headed enough at the time to remember it.
old enough to remember when pizza franchise chains were something new. even fast food was the exception, something a bit exotic and unusual even.

you know, all the way through school we had cafaterias in the schools that had cooks and dishwashers and weren't franchise concessions. and pretty decent food too. same menu as military chow halls. but every place had it's own cooks so each place it would have tasted a little different.

we didn't have gameboys or even pong, but what we did have were lionel and matchbox cars and mini-tanks. in grade school we used to play in the dirt under the bushes beside the school yard with them. everyone brought a hand full in our pockets to play with.

well at least the friends i played with did. others brought things like pickup stix or marbles or even tiddly winks. jax was a girl thing and most of them brought those too.

this was before barbies. but there were betsy wetsies.

Happy memories don't make me feel old, the give me a feeling better than a dream that allows me to go into the future today feeling like a kid with exuberance doing anything I choose.

Way back..........in the mind.

Tag.

Hide-n-Go Seek at dusk, like that Indian game in the dark at night.

Red Light, Green Light, like that........ mother may I.

Firing off salutes stuck in a hole in a can sitting in a pail of water watching them go up like rocket ships.

Playing kickball & dodgeball, 4 square and tetherball at school recess.

Hopscotch and kick the can.

Slip-n-Slides.

Tree Houses and forts inside the house after we moved every bit of furniture in our bedroom.

Hula Hoops and frisbees.

Skipping rocks on water.

Reading Mother Goose rhymes.

My pets.

Running through the sprinklers, squirtguns and firing the hose at each other.

Happy Meals made by mom at home.

Getting the privelage to sit in the front seat of the car cuz I am the oldest.

Drinking soda pop outta a bottle, and making a whistle sound with it after it is empty.

But wait....

Watching Saturday Morning Cartoons like the Roadrunner

Huckleberry Hound, Bugs Bunny and Quick Draw McGraw.

Yogi Bear and Mister Magoo.

Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Or what about....

When Christmas was the most exciting time of year, still is.

When $5 meant about as much as a mud puddle.

When you begged to set up the tent in the backyard and campout.

When the Sears toy catalog was exciting to read.

Go back to the time when.....

Argument's were forgotten as soon as something fun to do was thought of.

Decisions were made cuz it was the funest and most adventurous.

Mistakes were not known until you made them.

'Race issue' meant a race magazine.

Money issues was had by everyone in 'Monopoly', unlike the real family situation.

It wasn't odd to have two or three 'best' friends, felt good being friendly t omost everyone though.

Being old referred to anyone over 100.

A chance to skateboard like a water skier behind a mini bike.

Scrapes & bruises were badges of courage.

It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to look at some kid and think geesh that person is short.

When playing basketball was the hardest thing ever.

When kids ruled the world.

When drinking not drugs was the raddest thing ever.

When a candy bar at the grocery store was the highlight of your day after running away from home forever.

When tickets collected at a school carnival could get you a prize like a goldfish.

When the thing you cried over was the fact you were and crying.

When stress was eliminated by cutting school, goingto the beach and body surfing.

When friendships were as simple as who talked nice to you.

When shaving cream nozzles were melted around a pin and shot many feet on Halloween

When a kiss of the day from mom felt like evrything was going to be fine.

When Valentines Day meant giving something to all the kids in the class.

When birthdays were a neighborhood event and we went to a movie.

When a friend moving away set off daydreaming of I wonder what it's like there.

When the summer lasted forever cuz u were having a great time.

When time didn't matter and you could stay out and play after dark.

These were the days we don't forget, we just don't recall them unless we try.

Repost if these things mean something to you, and you get the personal images of when you were a kid..........yeah I did and much obliged.

Believe me when I tell you that you're singing to the choir with that one, but those thoughts and memories are the ones that despite anything else should be happy memories. Unless of course some kid got beat half to death by his mom during Spiderman

you know one of the coolest things i see kids doing now is being pulled by a big dog on their skateboards. i think that's a trip.

my childhood was going for long walks by myself out in the woods and seeing all kinds of natural wild creatures and my dad having taught me how to walk quietly in such a way as to not scare them away so that i could.

that and h.o. trains and lionel trains. and matchbox cars and tonka trucks and earth moving equipment.

erector set (american name for mechano). lincon logs. all kinds of construction set type things.

light up sneekers didn't exist and i couldn't stand sneekers anyway. but i did have penny loafers!

gettin an a in band, a c+ in something, algibra one or english probably, c-'s and d's in everything else.

drawing model railroad layout diagrams in the margins of all my text books

making flip movies in the margins of all my text books. mostly of trains.

ah playing in the bushes between the yards at school with my one or two good friends and our matchbox cars and minitanks. during recess.

i'll take pokeymon over rockey and bullwinkle any day, but i thought shirt tails were kind of cool. and i even LIKED top cat. some of the best though didn't happen until i was in my 30s. that IS one good thing about the 80s and 90s, japanese and canadian anime.

really the only thing redeaming about the 80s was that they gave us these things. the best thing about the 90s is that raygun wasn't president. actualy it really looked pretty hopeful there for a while. still whouldbe couldbe shouldbe when people wake up and stop buying into all this war on everything crap. which is of course some other thread in some other department.

light up sneakers for sueth! light emiting diodes hadn't even been invented yet when i was young.

that damd hot wind blowing sand from the beach into the cheep houses that once were where marine world or something like that is now. i was 3 years old then and fortunately we were there less then six months.

SNOW in the wintertime and the smell of pine needles on a cold winter day, now that for me is what it was all about. that and trains.

seeing trains running arround in all the store windows, not just toy and hobby stores.

building roads in the back yard with my tonka dump trucks and end loaders.

cats. mom was the cat lady and there were always cats. bonny mad cats. belam cats are bonny. they leap in the air and they haven't a care and they sleep upon your tummy.
