I don't know why I just though about this, but my brother is the first person ever in my family to marry someone who wasn't of irish, scottish or english descent. Every single person in my family tree has a irish last name... it's kind of scary since we've been in america for generations and all.
Just randomly popped into my head.

I guess a lot of families are like that, whether intentional or not I don't know.
The two sides of my family are so radically different ethnicly.....
Even on my moms side, her parents had to elope because she was pure Irish Catholic, and he was old time lower class american whose family had been here forever, they didn't approve so they got a secret apartment together and told no one

So crazy that people can't accept someone because of their background, and it's not always even about color as in you grandparents case. Totally nuts. Luckily my parents couldn't care less that she is chinese-malaysian. But some families would totally flip I'm sure.
