place to go?

Im from NY, have been traveling for the past few years. I dont have anywhere to stay right now so ive been hittin up the festies. Shwag-bonnaroo-bearcat-gratefulfest-shwag-10000lakes-vibes....looking for anywhere to stay o n the west coast? if i were staying on the streets where would be the best place?

That question gets harder to answer every year scarlet (seems like everyplace is getting more crowded and more regulated).


Some of the old advise still holds though--avoid the big cities, aim for the smaller college towns.

I did real well living outside in San Luis Obispo in 2004 but last I heard their homeless population has grown since then and there's been some discouraging rumors.

I hesitate to suggest Santa Cruz as a permenant squat (the cops make things hard for any kind of homeless people here and so, unfortuately, do some of the other homeless) but it might not be a bad place to start.

If you get here before too late in the year (try to get here before we're too far into fall) you should at least have a decent chance of hooking up with some other roadies looking for the same thing you are or who already know of a good winter squat.

A good stratagy would be to try to get to know some of the other people or little tribes who are passing through.
