Hi everyone, I hope you all are fine and happy today and everyday, Amen =)

''His family issued a statement saying: "He left this world as he lived in it, conscious of God, fearless of death, and at peace, surrounded by family and friends. He often said, 'Everything else can wait but the search for God cannot wait, and love one another."'

Any thoughts, comments?
I think people who still didn't know God or aren't looking for him, are really missing great & indescribable moments, some people died after few days of knowing him, Try to find him, start today to gain and spend and have more time with him on this temporary life =) you will Love him, I promise, you can't love some one who you don't know, so know God, He is worth loving *Promise*
ponder it anyway =)

George Harrison was great...Probably my favourite beatle.

I understand what you are saying Cat, but I personally feel that independent spirituality is more important than finding god, in his many shapes in forms...You can still be a very spiritual person and contemplate the important truths of life and death without beliving in a god.
I'm at a stage in my life where I have had the wonderful opportunity to learn the skill of meditation in the Buddhist tradition whilst travelling across asia...At this stage the teachings of the Buddha and the Buddhist philosophy have provided me with most the answers i've been looking for in my life...The concepts of no-self, interdependence and the 4 noble truths have felt so incredibly right to me.
So in my view there is no creator-god that I can love, instead I understand that because I am completely bound together with every other living being in the universe,
I try to love all others as I would love a god. By doing so I also love myself.
After all, no matter what religious tradition you follow or practice, if you cannot shwo love and compassion towards fellow sentient beings how can you show love to god?

Hi Peterness :)

I understand what you are saying Cat, but I personally feel that independent spirituality is more important than finding god,
I think the more important thing is, what does God want? does he want us to follow a scripture and believe in him? why did he created us, does he want something etc
in his many shapes in forms...You can still be a very spiritual person and contemplate the important truths of life and death without beliving in a god.
I think to know the important truths of life and death I need to know God, because he causes death and life he is the creator he knows the real facts :)
So in my view there is no creator-god that I can love,
To love someone you need to know him :)
*Peace and love*
Yours Sincerely,
Cat Stevens

I strongly disagree with this notion of you need to know someone to love them.
You should try to show compassion and love to everyone, the stranger on the street, your friends, your family, and even your enemies...You need to respect and love people you don't know, or people who you consider your enemies to be able to tolerate others and see them as equals.
If you have an inability to show this then truly loving and opening your heart to a god is also impossible.

To love a god you need to first love all others. All beings were supposedly the product of gods creation and carved in his image, so by loving others you are loving him anyway.

Some don't need a god to find love.

If you have an inability to show this then truly loving and opening your heart to a god is also impossible."Buddhism only became a popular religion when Buddha had taken the place of the Supreme Deity as an object of worship" - Sri Aurobindo.

I think that often, it's better to look at the similarities between different paths than the differences. De facto, many Buddhists worship Buddha just like God.

The ideaa that one can love God without knowing Him seems quite wrong to me. That maybe a large part of whats wrong with so much religion in to-day's world. It's looked on as a kind of 'moral duty' to love God. In fact, it is impossible to command someone to love either God or their fellow humans.

I didn't misunderstand you.

It's just our different paths of spirituality.

The love you find in god I find in others.

Similary, I believe in karma, that what I do to others I am essentially doing to myself since we are interdependent. You also believe this but instead of karma you believe in Allah. Correct? Good deeds are rewarded, 'bad' deeds are punished.
Love is still the same no matter what you call it.

I totally agree. This is something i've discussed in the buddhism forum.

you said:

I didn't mean that, I meant when You said:in my view there is no creator-god that I can love When you know That creator-God you can and WILL love him =) because he is worth loving, *my experience* I do love people who even don't know me, when someone says : I don't love Jesus, in my opinion that because he doesn't know Jesus!!! I'm tlking about those who are worth loving, when people say they cannot love them , I tell them, know them, and YOU will love them Automatically

But there is no creator to love.Maybe there is a creator, but you haven't seen Him yet.
Not trying to offend - just pointing out the possibility.

Since this thread is obsensibly about George Harrison and God I suppose it's inevitable that some will say George was wrong - he was deluding himself all those years.
Why not start a thread about Leonard Cohen and Buddhism? (he's the only famous Buddhist I can think of who was also a musician from the 60's.)
