Sea Level

Spoke I to the ocean, rolling, in motion
"well at last here I be at the ceaseless sea
damp and hazy and hot as it is
at least I can fall no lower than this.
Even the eye-blinding fogs fall no low'r."

And roaring the sea then laughed at me
in the tumbling raving of its constant waving,
"come, take a swim, and I will show you--
you, the confident fool with no view--
to what terrible depths you can fall from the shore."

Just so you all know, I'm leaving tomorrow on a several month journey across the US via bicycle. So, if anyone responds to this, I won't be able to thank you or answer your post in any way...unless I check back in later today or possibly tomorrow morning. Just felt like sharing it anyways. Have a good couple of months and keep on writing, y'all :)

"Bon Chance!" as they say in France. I hope your cross-country ride goes well. This piece is very good, the rhythm is unusual, but has a pleasent pace to it!

Thanks you guys, I'm blushing over here. You are all too kind. And yes, I'm sure I'll have lots of stories to tell, and I'm sure I'll write lots of poetry, since I can't seem to stop the flow of it (not that i mind, of course).

Anyways, I'll miss reading all your poems. It's amazing; some other poetry sites I've seen have just absolute garbage poems, but hip forums is unique in that there is real talent among the posters here. Must be that hippie vibe ;)

Thanks sylvan. Unfortunately I got hit by a car, and am now resigned to sitting around the house while my foot heals up. :\

Yeah, it's doing ok. Ruined all my plans though

did it ruin them? that's the thing about our plans....they are not always what are best for us and the universe tends to find a way of realligning us back on our path....

least that is what i have found.
hope you heal quickly. had you begun your trip already? how far had you gotten?

"The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry," right? It still sucks, I've been dreaming of doing this since childhood. But I'm trying not to complain too much.

As to how far I got, I left from Detroit, made it to western Minnesota, maybe 90 miles from South Dakota. I think I'd have made it there that day, had I not been hit. And yeah, I'm healing well enough. Still walking gimpy, but most of the swelling is gone, and the cuts are healing fast. Thanks for the concern :)
