View Full Version : I feel weird about leaving home...

I'm moving in a month, and, even though I'm really exited about moving to America, about flying off the nest, I'm kinda sad... :(
I mean I'm gonna leave my parents, my sisters, my friends, the pets... I love them so much, I'll miss them a lot. To only be able to talk to them through the phone or the internet, to see them maybe twice a year is gonna be hard... Okay, maybe I feel that way now, but after a year I'll be used to live by myself, like an adult... at least, I hope!!
Sometimes I wish I could be 8 years old again. Stay with my family, with nothing to worry about, no responsanilities, a lot of time ahead of me before becoming an adult. And yet, most of the time I wish I was gone already, in my own apartment, making my own money, taking my own decisions. It's strange, but I guess everyone feels that way when it's time to leave... or at least, most people.
I really hope I adapt very well to my new life. That it won't too hard at first. That I'll get used to the idea of having grown up and having to live without my parents. They're really special... if you had parents like mine, it'd be hard for you to leave them, even being 20. They're so loving, but not too much, they're very understanding, and have always done everything they could to make me and my sisters happy. They're wonderful...

http://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/icons/newicons/icon14.gifI know its hard leaving family. I remember when I left Michigan to come to Maryland, I cried my eyes out when leaving. Left my sisters at the time, my real dad grandparents. my sister Sarah just left from visiting. I am still really sad that she is gone I know she will be back but its still really hard, I hope it all works for you though :) http://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon6.gifhttp://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon12.gif

I hope it all works out too! I'm sure it will... but it'll probably take a while until I adapt my new life! Oh well, it's an adventure!

At times, it's not easy for me to be away from family. I enjoy being in Japan, and coming here was definitely the right decision for me, but I definitely miss the comfort of family back home. I haven't seen my family since October, and I think the soonest I'll see them is December.
Sometimes, I wish I was 9 or 10 years old. Those times were so awesome... Well, the only thing I can do is make sure my future is awesome as hell.

Some people stay with their family until they're 30, like when they get married! Some people forever... and some people leave as soon as they can.

I just came back after one year in Denmark... when I moved there I was pretty excited and even though I was missing a bit my family I had Liv there.. which was EVERYTHING for me... when we split in february I was totally lost... I couldn't see any purpose to stay longer in denmark... but now I am happy I decided to stay there another semester as well!
for you it can be much different..coz when I went there I knew it was just for one year... while you are planning to move oversea permanently... I wish you good luck outside the beautiful old Europe ;)

Only 3 weeks until I movie now! That's it, I ordered my plane tickets, my 4 huge crates are off to America next week, all that's left to do is pack my suitcase... but I won't do that until like 2 days before I leave.
I'm so exited! Really, I can't wait...
But, still, I'm trying to make the most of my life here at the moment. I spend a lot of time with my family, go out a lot... but I'm getting used to the thought of living far from them more and more, so, it's good :)

I would definitely feel weird about moving to another country and leaving my family behind. I would miss them so much! I just hope that you will enjoy being in the US. :)

Oh yes, I'm sure I'll really enjoy it :)I might need so time to adapt my new life, but, that's just because I'll be far from my family and everything I'm so used to... adapting the country itself won't be a problem.
I'm in the mood for changes, at the moment, so I hope it lasts :)

Just al little piece of music that comes to my mind while I read this:
’let us be lovers we’ll marry our fortunes together’
’I’ve got some real estate here in my bag’
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and mrs. wagner pies
And we walked off to look for america
’kathy,’ I said as we boarded a greyhound in pittsburgh
’michigan seems like a dream to me now’
It took me four days to hitchhike from saginaw
I’ve gone to look for america
Laughing on the bus
Playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said ’be careful his bowtie is really a camera’
’toss me a cigarette, I think there’s one in my raincoat’
’we smoked the last one an hour ago’
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field
’kathy, I’m lost,’ I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I’m empty and aching and I don’t know why
Counting the cars on the new jersey turnpike
They’ve all gone to look for america
All gone to look for america
All gone to look for america
Simon & Garfunkel "America", a little bit overheard now...

Congratulations, Penny :)
It must take a lot of guts to move to America. You're right, sometimes it's hard to realize that you are making the right decision when all you can think about is leaving family and friends (and pets!)
Just try to focus on all of the new people and places you will get to see, all the new things you will learn, etc. I just moved across the nation (out to california from ohio) and i miss my family and friends, too. Just remember that those people will always be there for you and love you, even if you are far away. absence makes the heart grow fonder! moving can be hard but you are such a positive person and i think you will love the change in your life.
good luck! be safe!

ask if you can bring one of your pets and then it'll remind you of home and it'll be a companion for you.

Thanks everyone for all the advice and encouragements! :) You're all so sweet.
*sighs* wow, I'm leaving in 2 days, tomorrow is the last day I spend with my family until January!! I still have to pack my stuff in my stuicase... I'll be with my mom until Friday when the plane takes off, but I'll say goodbye to my dad, sisters and pets tomorrow night (or maybe Thursday morning if they wanna get up early...)

It's hard moving out the first time, away from home, I agree... but wow, you've made a huge move! I had a hard enough time moving to a different town, I don't know if I could ever leave the country I grew up in, such a culture shock... :) I'm sure everything will work out for you, so no worries!

Thanks... well, it has been working out so far - I started that thread like a year ago (!) and I have been doing pretty well here in the states... feels like a second home now! And I do miss my family and friends sometimes, but I've gotten used to it... never thought I would!! I'm having a few problems with the government at the moment though which sucks but hopefully it'll get settled, I need to change the name on my social security card and they refused a first time, gave me shit about it, and whithout that change, I can't apply for a driver's liscence...

I know how you feel. I'm going to England in about 2 weeks & while I'm more than glad to be away from my family for 6 months, I'm excited & a little nervous. I'm hoping to land a job there & that things work out between my bf & I then I most likely won't be coming back but to visit. I hope things continue to go well for you!
