Do any of you know many other hippies where you live. I don't, I just see them sometimes at the store I used to work at. I wish I knew some but I don't.....sucks. But it doesn't matter if someone is a hippie or not it's all about how nice the person is, but it still would be nice to know some.

i just moved north of san francisco this week, so yeah there's hippies around, but there's lots of other people too. i personally don't know any of these people except my aunt and cousin (who i live with now).
back in idaho, there were a few. some were just doing it to "rebel" others really are.

The only hippies I've known are the ones that lived in the 60's.

there is this one guy, in town here. he was alive back in the 60's during the hippie movement and everything, and when i see him at parties i sit down and talk with him. he goes on about drugs, and government conspiracies, and we just have these really cool talks. then, when he drives by me uptown, we flash each other the peace sign. hehe.
other than that, it's just me! :/

No kids or anything, other than some wellington mall rats, lots of rich kids.
I meet alot of cool people, older people. I met a guy yesterday at a party my neighbor had, like a block party. I was actually walking home cause I was full(I live across the street and only really came over to eat) and I was wearing a doors shirt. Well, this guy caught me and said that when he was in ther service in germany, he went to a doors concert. Well, he was saying that he was standing there real close to the stage and Jim Morrison was right over him. While he was standing there singing ash fell off his ciggarette and landed on this guy's shoulder (the guy I was talking to). So all his friends were saying "save it save it, don't wash that shirt" and he was like "Wtf, it's all dirty now" lol. Crazy shit. I was actually wearing the same shirt at the market today, and this guy comes up to me and my friend talking about how The doors were named after the doors of perception, then he started going on about how jesus is the door keeper or something. That guy was weird.

I know quite a few...one of them is really old, and he's really creepy and he calls me his hippie mama, and talks about us getting married. There's a lot more hippies around here than i really thought...i always get the peace sign shot at me when im driving cuz of my stickers on my car :) i love it...makes me happy :D

doesn't the idea of "knowing any hippies" seem kind of cheeseball to anyone? no offense intended of course, i was just thinking, what defines a hippy? clothing? the odd "groovy, man" thrown into a few sentences? of course not.
you could pass a dude on the street with short hair and a black leather jacket, how do you know they're not a hippy? i try not to talk about hippy-ness like it's a "cool" thing, or a fad.

i dunno man i guess really we all have our deffinition of hippy ya know. but i'd like to meet a girl that's a hippy..in my deffinition. i mean she should be against the warby far, listen to all the old music, cuz come on the stuff nowadays isn't quit positive or even good sounding if you ask me. but anyways, i don't sem to see many girls, or guys for that case, that are hippy's. i mean, i have friends that listen to older stuff but they really aren't hippy's. by the way i live in pa, if anyone wants to talk or something i have aim & e-mail. another thing i'd say is that yea like nightmarehippygirl said it's not about the look & all to be a hippy but i'd liek to find someone that has long hair & is all into that look. that look wasn't just about being a hippie that was about the entire 60's & 70's.they had long hair everyone had long hair then & i think it's cool. i'd liek to find other people in my area that are like that.

I was just thinking that myself! I only know one, my hairdresser. We did chill once, but she's into acid and stuff. I'm really not into that. It's a shame I finally had met someone that though like me!

I guess I always defined hippies by there attitude and music preferences.
Just cause you wear tye-dye doesn't mean your a hippie. I see people wearing tye dye all the time and there not hippies.
Anyway I went to high school that specialized in hippies. I went to a private all guys high school and all of us were huge into Phish, Dead, Panic, String Cheese ,etc. Our homecoming one year was Phish's Big Black Furry Creatures From Mars.
lespaulman,
There are tons of bands that have the same positive feel as all the old stuff.

Hey, where in Ohio are you now? I'm near Akron.
Ahem... yes, I know a few hippies, but they seem to be few and far between in my town. Just a couple kids I go to school with. One guy had the 60s Volkswagen bus and all.

well, i dont know many people who are nice and smoke pot (not to be cool), and want ot go to protest, and share and care, and spread all around love. so i guess you can say i dont know any hippys. OH! and i know like 1 person besides myself who listens to jam bands and 60s music, and he's a little mean and not my friend (i've tried to be his, but he dont care). i wish i had someone to listen to the grateful dead with, relax, go to protest, nad just share the love. but i got no 1 to do that with. and i live in southern california!

Family... my aunt and my uncle definantly. They aren't old enough to be official hippies but they definantly still carry that vibe from the past. I see them at all the Grateful Dead concerts and the aunt was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, '69. Plus the grandmother is a pretty big hippy. My dad is welcoming to that crowd but he pretty much shed the old habits and beliefs.
Outside the family is other circles, places that I would visit. School for one, during the summer. This one tracker lady (she'd watch the halls and escort certain students, including me) always wore the patchwork skirts, have her hair all crazy and free, and she went also to this last Grateful Dead concert. My exboyfriend went through her bag while he was in the office and found some weed. lol. Plus this lady's aunt that also worked there was pretty hippy, but I thought she was kinda weird.
Then the mall.... I met an awesome dreadlock lady at Hot Topic. She wasn't gothic or punked out. She wore the nice bright colored clothes and had that real mellow peaceful personality. She helped me try on some hardy skater shoes that I bought there for riding horses or whatever. So whenever I see her in the mall, I say hi. :) Plus I meet random dudes there that are from out in the boonies of Idaho. One guy really followed me around once, he was pretty silly and hippy.
Plus the other places I never fail to meet very laidback hippy types are the ski resorts. Especially in Fernie, BC or Sun Valley, Idaho. They congregate up there and I always seem to make a friend. We'll talk, exchange stories and say hi whenever we see each other again. Pretty awesome.
Plus my long haired boyfriend I guess. :) He is a twin, lives in this house with a purple light for a greeting over the door and when you walk in you hear reggae music. Theres a glass bong in the center of the table, Bob Marley posters, neat instruments... Plus they got their own music room full of band gear and awesome lights. I dont know, that place is my haven. :)
I love people!

My town was created as a planned community in the seventies, so a lot of the original hippies are still around. There are very few with the usual longhair accouterments, but they’re everywhere- golfing, taking your blood pressure, helping you with your taxes... it’s surreal. There are also a whole lot of younger hippies if you know where to look, not to mention many young philosophical junkies and communist poets to know and love.
