depends, what do you wanna do? see a lot of celebrities or hang out with the hippies? i'm assuming the latter as this is a hippie forum. if you're heading to socal there are a lot of hippies that hang out at venice beach, might wanna check it out. but there are also a lot of gang members there so go at our own risk, it is LA afterall. =:-O

the hippest place in california today, fur as i'm concerned, would have to be the san juan ridge, north of the grassvalley/nevada city area, just up hwy 49 from there. grass valley/nevada city's got band, live music goin on all the time. really good local, national and even international musicians. lots of other cultural kinds of stuff too.

of course there's all over the san francisco bay area too.
