Why is it that people would rather complain?

People always want to complain about things like social inequality, poor living conditions, personal issues, and other things, but they never want to take action. Why do you think people complain about something they have no intention of trying to improve?

To me, this doesn't make sense, at all. I see many things I disagree with going on around my city, and I do nothing about it. Because of this I don't waste my time or somebody elses bitching about how rediculous it is. The road I live on has been repaved twice in the past year and there was really never anything wrong with it to begin with, while roads in primarily black and mexican neighborhoods are so decrepit they're almost non-existant. People have been whining about it for years and years, but have any of them written their congressman? No. Have any of them started petitions to get their road repaved? No. What do they do instead? Sit on their asses and feel sorry for themselves.

Exactly. Like I said, I don't like much of what I see, but I don't plan to take action so I don't talk about it. It's that simple. Take action, or shut the fuck up.

well, for me, in terms of personal things... venting is therapeutic, and getting support in tough situations makes me feel even better ("I've got your back" type stuff). It's easy enough to avoid, if it's in a thread started by me and it has at least a semi-pathetic title just don't click on it, and you don't have to read it

maybe they feel beaten down and just have no more desire to try and fix things anymore. years ago they could have tried to fix things and nothing could have happened, so why try now when you tried before and nothing happened.

all government, from local to city to state to federal tramples on people all the time. shit, its happened in my neighborhood in boston. there were several ordinances set up as the big dig happened, and the city of boston just ignored them. people just start feeling useless and stop trying sometimes.

There are times where I complain about things but genuinely want solutoins, and times where I just want to vent. When I'm complaining and wanting a solution, it's because I can't see a clear solutoin, a good path to resolving the problem, and I need an alternative perspective to assist me

Maybe your'e argument is a little black and white - some people's views are changed by the opinions of others - so if for example someone moans on and on about the excess of unofficial immigrants entering a country but never actually does anything about it - just the fact they are drawing attention to themselves may catch the attention of someone who may persuade them to take action.Whereas if they'd never contributed anything in the first place,no-on would be any the wiser and no-ones opinions would be counted.To say 'People who are never going to act - therefore should say nothing' is to dismiss roughly half the world population's opinions.
