I remember when there were no speed cameras everywhere on the roads,
OK you got the occasional Policeman with one of those radar guns but
today big brother and all those friggin speed cameras generating revinue
are absolutely everywhere. It's no longer fun driving like the old days.
I would always drive within my limits and safely and sometimes your able
to put your foot down, late at night on deserted roads, but you can't do
it anymore because of these cameras.
Fastest I've personally drove is 145mph, wouldn't do it now though..lol

I remember 75mph speed limits that got torn down and everyone in the USA had to drive 55 for a few years. Then they raised it to 65 on freeways. I think we should have smart cars that limit the speed according to the ability of the drivers! Or better still, cars that drive themselves!

Can you remember the promises that were made long ago to us as children? The ones that were never fulfilled by our society? Promises made by our leaders, our media, our visionaries, even science fiction...

After all, we passed 2001 and I don't see hotels in space and trips to the moon and beyond.

And where is that racial equality? More than half of urban blacks end up in jail at some point in their lives. That's equality?

What else?

Always amazes me with America, such bigs cars and motorways/freeways
with quite a low speed limit.
I agree, smart cars sound good, I like the way the German Autobahn
works. No speed limit as such but you can get pulled over for tail-gaiting
which is one of the biggest causes of crashes.
Saying that I wouldn't dream of breaking the speed limit now, but when
your young doing stupid things like that was all part of learning to drive.
Roll on the day when they make cars that fly..? LOL

i remeber when the roads were two lane and radar guns hadn't been invented. the roads were mostly too crowded to do that though. at lest in califonia. but out accross nevada. people would go out there to open er up and see what she'd do.

this was BEFORE the 55 limit. back in the mid 50s through mid to even late 60s, when the freeways were first replacing the two lane in most rural places.

when i lived in montana, they got rid of speed limits on the highways. not sure if it's still like that now though.

Oh yeah...when I got my first drivers license..'71...the speed limit hadn't been dropped yet....and vehicles were still built for speed. It was a "gear-heads" dream time..I was in Hawaii when the government mandated the double nickle speed limit.....so it didn't make that much of an impact there...since you were very limited on the actual road surface to drive and it was always so congested that getting any speed up was a feat.

I can remember doing 70 across Montana and on into
North Dakota. My old man still took his time for me on rte 66 tho.
He wanted me to see it. I mean really see it. That Tee-pee motel with the
"DQ" next door. all of it.
Gas was what? $1.05 then.
