I used to really enjoy board games when I was a kid. A lot of them are still around, but of course who plays them anymore?

Some I enjoyed:
Monopoly (of course - learn how to be a successful capitalist!)
Stocks and Bonds (not really a board game, but capitalism at it's finest)
Stratego (learn how to run an army - almost!)
Risk (learn how to take over the world)
Summit (ditto)

Anyone notice a theme in the games above? Ever wonder how these games program our children?

Also played:
Win Place & Show (horse racing)

Let's go way back!
Chutes and Ladders
Candyland
The Game of Life
Chinese Checkers (did that really come from China?)
Checkers

Chess and Go are excellent for improving memory and reasoning skills.

I liked chess ever since I learned, but no one ever wanted to play. We played monopoly a lot (not that we played games all that much), but I always lost. Parchisi (sp?) is a good game. Battleship was fun, Life wasn't much fun (what does that say about me?) but we played that kinda often too.

Mainly, though, we played card games: go fish, crazy 8 (uno), gin, rummy, and when i got older, my favorite game, euchre.

i remember all sorts of variations on chutes and ladders and parcheazy, don't remember the names of any of them though. my dad was usualy at work, my mom watching television and i was more interested in playing with my tonka trucks and endloaders outside in the dirt. didn't have any brothers and sisters, or cousins less that half a continent away. i did make friends fairly easily, which worried my mom, that and going for long walks by myself in the woods. by the time i would have been into board games i was into model trains and photography. we did have and play some though, i remember that, either with my dad, or my mom. though mostly mom and i would play card games like pishpasha (double solitare) 25 point, and rummy, both accumulative and single hand.

Candyland was my game of choice when I was very little. From stories I'm told, I used to want to play that constantly and I do remember playing it, but not constantly. Oh well *shrug*. It would be cool to play that again hehe.

The most addictive game I ever played was called APBA Baseball, which had cards for each player in both leagues. You would throw two dice and the result was looked up on these big play cards which contained every conceivable play.

You could play a whole season's games, which I did once. I even had hundreds of blank scorecards printed up so I could keep track of every game. The stats were very realistic cause the odds of the dice throws were factored into the stats for each player. It was a mindblower for a 12 yr old. But by 13 my interests went elsewhere. ;)

Ok here's one after we all grew up out of the kids games and were into the finer things in life(weed) and the party life.I want another copy of this game by the way.If any body knows about one.

But how many of the old school folks are familiar with or have played the "Dealer McDope" board game.It was a drug dealers monoploy,or something similiar....but a blast from the past for me.

i remember feds and heads! i think that was a robert crumb modification of the monopoly board. there was a drawing of how to redo the board and all the cards and set of rules, but i don't think i ever saw it marketed as a boxed set.

hehehe when I was little we had a game called "The Farming Game". The entire premise was you inhereted so many acres from your grandfather or something like that, and you had to try and make it as a farmer.

Amost impossible to win.

Now that was an alternative game! Never saw it tho. I'd love to see how you were able to do that. Seems like once upon a time we had monopoly busters in the government. Now under Bush, they seem to do the opposite, protecting corporate monopolies.

It was a very complicated game and I remeber very little about it.I imagine that is why it wasn't around very long. There were different roles you could assume to attempt to break up these pre-established corporations.I really can't remember alot about it....I just remembered the game doing this flashback thing.

'Risk':- I used to play that with my Family in the 1970s & would try to take over the world before bedtime.
Nonetheless my stepbrother always chose the 'white' counters & he always won with them. The board was always covered in white if he was playing.
