yah smurfs were great. I always thought it weird that there was only ONE female though...
Cool thing about smurfs is that they were around alot earlier than the 80's... they started in another country, in the 50s... I think

I haven't heard or read anything about the Smurfs lately. Are they still around?
When I was taking German some years ago, somebody said that the Smurfs were originally German and that their "real" name was the Strumpfs or something like that.

Yes, Smurfette was the only female.
I had over 100 of the little toys when I was a kid. Made by Peyo. I had the house, the boat, the car, the jail... I was obsessed.

Smurfs are cool, though. If it was still on tv, I'd watch it. That and the good old loony toons, like the roadrunner or bugs bunny. I was just thinking about that the other day, good shows man.

I used to watch the Smurfs. Now that I'm older I realize there were a lot of psychedelic undertones in that cartoon. Weird.

Yeah for the Smurfs! Yeah, I am old enough to remember them. I used to tuck my little girls under smurf sheets too. I was grown before they came out. My kids bugged me for Smurfberry cereal. Gosh, I didn't buy it though very often. I was and am too much of a health nut. My former business partner was called "Papa Smurf" He passed away a few years back. We sold books and antiques in Orlando, FL. He was a short, rotund man with a white hair and beard. He was a sweetheart. Before he passed he lost a lot of weight so he no longer resembled a smurf. But thank you for reminding me of him.
Peace and Love! Cricket
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

my life revolved around the smurfs..and the snorkels..and pretty much any cartoon that would catch my attention. wuzzles, carebears..etc, etc. And yes I have to agree that they do have a psychadelic undertone and I swear that I would just daze and go into my own little world where I was a smurf when I was younger..

Back in the 80s, some religious group in the south had all the kids bring their care bears to a location where they were burned. Their rationale was never clear, although it appeared that they felt some jealously at something that was non-religious having virtue and that they saw as competing with their religious faith.
Reminds me of the sketch Dana Carvey did as the Church Lady where he accused Santa of undermining religion. He rearranged the letters in Santa to spell 'Satan'. Then he yelled out Satan! with that reverberating echo added in. :)
