When a guy puts a condom on his penis, does he do when the penis is soft or erect?

I am curious to know because it's a problem I could face in the future.

I have watched erotic films, porn films etc, and noticed the different sex positions.

I mean how can a guy take the girl's weight when she is on top of him?

When it's erect. It would be virtually impossible to do when it's soft.
A girl takes the guys weight all the time. Girl on top is heaps of fun. And the guy doesn't have to do much (compared to missionary..etc). Didn't you do sex ed at school?
