Who here is a fan of The Addams Family? The original black and white series. That was the kind of household that I would have liked to grow up in. Get a moontan instead of a suntan. Go down in the basement and blow up things with dynamite-and watch your dad blow up your toy train set! Have a butler that looked like Frankenstein's cousin that would play the harpsichord for you (Lurch taught me to appreciate the harpsichord). Watch your dad throw ten foot spears into the wall in the living room and shout 'Ungawa!' after he's checked his stocks on the stock ticker? My family was just the OPPOSITE of the Addams Family-if I could relive my childhood, that's the way I'd do it.

I loved it when they would blow up those model trains. :)

Veg,

Agreed. I have gotten to talk with some of folks connected with this in the past and I have spent some time thinking about the meaning of the series. I have come to the conclusion that the series was about accepting differences in people and, actually, for want of a better term, about what 'hip' is; I've recently seen "Addams Family Values" and clearly the people involved with this movie did not understand what "The Addams Family" was about; the movie only touched superficially on the this and in essence they missed the "mode of expression" that is truly "Addams." The series was 'rich,' 'deep' and socially very significant in it's expression.

P/L,

David

I loved it when Gomez would start kissing up Morticia's arm when she said something in French-'later, Gomez, later, remember the children...' and Gomez would kind of snap to and say, 'oh yes, where was I?...' I had a boyfriend who used to do that with me, imitating Gomez...really cute.

Adams family with a simple plot that leads to a reasonably well-written movie with impressive design and effects, and lots of good laughs.

I like the idea of acceptance as well.

I think I thought that my family was very strange and I'd rather have a strange but cool family like that.

Again, the message I took from it was that just like any other family the love was there.
