I know that this is THE typical 50's show, but I like to watch it because it is HILARIOUS, with memorable quotes galor:

"Can I be excused dad? I'm not hungry from telling you stuff."

"Hey look, he fell in the soup! Hahah..oh, uh, hi Mr. Cleaver, some poor unfortunate child is trapped up there!"

"Why would they beat the child just becuase I want him to play Smokey the Bear?"

Dad: "Do you think MY dad drove me places when I was a kid?
Wally: "Gee, no dad! It was probably a lot of trouble hitching up all the horses!"

This is another show I watch with my mom.

My parents and I always watch this show to yell at the TV to tell them to stop being so goody-goody. ;) If Eddie weren't on the show I don't even think I could watch it. The adults on the show always bug the hell outta me.

For example, I watched an episode the other day where a kid trips Beaver and calls him an idiot. The Beav then says a bad word that wasn't heard by the viewers. Mrs. Landers is horrified and preaches to Beav about how that kind of language is inappropriate and terrible. Beaver says, "but he tripped me and called me stupid" and Mrs. Landers says, "I don't care! You used a BAD WORD!" or something like that. She insists on talking to his parents, etc.

Then there's this other episode where Ward and June go out shopping for clothes and going out to eat and they have Beaver and Wally spend the day clearing out the yard (not as a punishment, just a chore) and they can't have any friends over. They spend a lot of time working but take a little break and then get yelled at for "goofing off." Ward says, "Next time you'll do what I tell you WHEN I tell you."

Jesus, if I were these kids I would rebel. And I don't care if it was the 50s, I still would. I do find the show funny, though. Very different times.

In 1957 when "Leave it to Beaver" hit the air waves, I was Beavers age, about 8.
Things in the American family were very much like what you see on the old re-runs.
About that time I went to see my first pro baseball game, my dad and I both wore neck-ties and sports coats , I shit you not.
Mothers/wifes stayed home and put on a nice dress befor Dad got home from work.
Had never heard of take-out food. Went out for dinner on friday night a couple of times a month.
A saturday movie cost 20 cents and a box of popcorn was 10 cents. In the summer we could go to the movies for free.....on Wenesdays.
Life was slower then, but looking back it was great.

I like the SCTV spoof where John Candy was the beaver, Wally was gay, his father was pouring bourbon on his corn flakes for breakfast, etc. :)

I've always loved Leave It to Beaver. I watch it all the time. It's such a cute show.

LITB is better than any comedy on today. It takes a lot more talent to make something funny without relying on some sexual innuendo for a cheap laugh.

A wonderful show,as are so many of the shows made back in the 1950s-70s.-----------Within the last 20 years or so they just produce rubbish,junk that people can view in between the drug commercials on Amerian tv.

Eddy Haskile was the best. He was so full of shit it was funny. He would tell June how nice she looked and ward what a great guy he was. Then go upstairs and mess with the Bevs head. Great stuff.

I know it's old-fashioned, and goody goody. But that family really seemed to love each other. Ward and June never spanked their kids. They only talked to them and tried to teach them right from wrong.
