is one weird old lady...

We flat in this ramshackle old house - I don't know how old exactly, only that's it's a brick, victorian one and that's it's seen a lot of use over the years.

anyway, all this mad stuff keeps happening - like:

*you hear doors slamming when all the doors in the house are aleady shut and locked.

*other doors open and shut randomly, and they dont slam or swing like in a draft (there's usually no draft anyway), they open really slowly and tentatively.

* Taps turn themselves off and on at all hours of the day and night

*And i'm sure I saw a figure walking down the hallway after i'd just moved in: my flatmate had her back to the (open) door, and it passed behind her but when we went to look there was no-one there. It was tall, and kind of looked like a 3D shadow.

it's weird anyway. I'm not saying it's something it's not (we are a house of philosophy students, we have had 'don't believe in anything' drilled into us).

but i was talking to last year's tenants and they swore that saw and heard many of the same things.

oh and also, apparently there's this river that runs down a hill and under a lot of old buldings in our city. I think it was supposed to have originated in a Maori burial ground (one that was Tapu or sacred) and that was demolished when the settlers came. Anyway it runs under the Fortune theatre - which is supposedly haunted, the Regent Theatre, ditto; the Ra Bar - where a waitress saw a ghost surrounded by a ring of fire in the basement and Metro Bar, where bar staff keep running into this old, silent, Maori woman in the basement and so.

We are maybe one street over, like 30 seconds walk from the Fortune theatre....the river would run by us, too.

anyway, just thought i'd share. I don't think ghosts are actually real, but if i was the type to believe, our flat would be kind of a convincing place...

sounds very interesting....I'm surprised you don't consider that ghosts may be real after experiencing all of that. What do you think it will take to get you out of that mindset?

How do you explain to yourself the cause of these things?

I've had those experiences in my house .... friends of ours were over to play cards and they witnessed something strange along with my husband and I.

I think people will always find reasons to minimize the incidents ... and is funny, I've seen figures in my home and witnessed closet doors swinging in front of me, but I still feel that "ghosts" arent real.

Weird. Maybe you have to be literally slapped in the face by one to believe.
