She’s reaching for something
But all she’s getting is air
She has nothing to hold on to
But a voice and words on a page
It was the simple things you said
That kept her heart guessing
Kept her thinking of you
She lays in her bed
In the dark
That's no longer so dark
Morning approaches
Creeping in the window blinds
She realizes
She hasn’t slept at all that night
And now it’s time to get up
Get herself ready for the world
Face it all just one last time
Today she says things
They will change
They’ll be different
But as the hours creep by
It’s still you on her mind
And she’s searching for the answers
To un answerable things
She sits down on the coffee table
Brushing her hair
And she tries to make herself
Beautiful for just this last affair
She puts on your favourite outfit
The one nobody else has seen
She heads for the kitchen
Picking up her keys
She sits down on the floor
Exposing her body
For metal to see
And it eats away her soul
Of once beauty and grace
Now she’s left feelings ugly
This outfit that was once your favourite
Is now more or less
Slightly stained
Would you want to see it again...
Would you still want her again?
She feels used by the metal
So she prays for the courage...
To get up and leave
Leave this sad version of herself
On the doorstep
Of her house
And try
Try again
To get through a different way
She just wants you to know
That her heart beats for you
She wants to remind you
She loves you
And because of that
She only wants what's best for you now
She feels not quiet there
Not good enough
You disserve so much more
Then she could ever give you
But she’s wrapped her heart in brown paper
And sent by air
And if calculated right
When it arrives you’ll be there
And it will be your decision
Weather you put it on the mantel
And show it to your friends
Say “Look what I’ve got”
Weather you tuck it neatly away
In a brown paper bag
And store it in a box on the closet floor
Labeled ‘Heart aches’
Or just through it to the curb
For the the garbage man
When the sun comes up
She’ll leave it to you
To do what you must
