In the darkest shade of night,
The moonbats will come out.
They will perch upon your left earlobe
And swing it all about.

They'll talk about tomorrow,
Of politics and such.
But by the time they've finished
They won't have spoken much.

I was walking through the forest
One cloudy, moonless night,
When they perched upon my left earlobe
And put me in a fright.

One said "Dream your dreams,
But they will never come to pass.
For when the future has come and gone
You'll still be sitting in the grass."

Another spoke "Don't pay him heed,
His mistakes land in your ears.
Your fantasies of fields and beaches
Will be fulfilled in seven years."

The first said "Knave! I've spoken truth!
Your tales of fortune give false hope."
The second said "I do you right, sir,
The liar cannot cope"

They argued back and forth like this
While perched upon my ear.
Each pointing at the other
And telling me to fear.

And when an hour had passed me by,
They suddenly made room,
For a third moonbat had joined them
In the darkness and the gloom.

It spoke up "Here's your answer.
Your dreams are dreams are dreams.
There is not a lot in life
That is as though it seems"

"I do not know the future,
I only know the past.
But you will not accomplish much
By sitting in the grass."

"You can achieve your dreams
And you can also fail.
So reach out with a good friend
And you will find the trail."

Then the moon came out
And shined it moonly light.
The flap-flap-flap of hairy wings
Accompanied their flight.

I have now a friend beside me
Who shares my happiness.
Together we have journeyed
And met with much success.

Hey man, this is really good. Very well written.

"but you will not accomplish much
by sitting in the grass"

So true...
