Arizona???

I am interested in searching for some Mana here in Arizona. I have some wonderful guides on fruiting fungi, but nothing has mentioned Arizona. Im wondering where and what time of the year I should look.
Hopefully the Monsoon is coming sometime this month...

Where in AZ do you live? Im living in Houck, AZ over the summer on a navajo rezervation. Sorry i cant help you with your question though.

i live in az too, i picked a good amoutn of shrooms during spring, about 4-6 ounces, sum of them made me trip sum didnt, but on 420 me and 2 friends smoked a shit laod of weed, did sum yayo a,d smoke liek 3bowls of shrooms then ate likea handfull eache, and went to school trippin balls

The psilocybe mushrooms in arizona could only be in certain locations, in the forest. Wasson (i believe) discovered two strains, though I don't know much about them, might go scouting since I live at the forest entrance.

The two strains are Gymnopilus sapineus Genus spectabilis. I would imagine growing in the junipine forests (like Prescott or near Flagstaff) and closer to Colorado and that area.

This weekend we were at Hutch Mountain, and we came across several different species of mushroom. Especially Some LBMS (little brown mushrooms) feeding off dead wood, but they did not bruise blue nor did they blue spores. It was fun though with baby being a adorable forest sprite.

Im thinking about joining a Mushroom Society in Az so I can learn more about all fungi. Was David Arora's book and some mushrooms taste like delicious cherries, fish, jalapenos, and other interesting flavors. It would be an amazing thing to know. We will be Prescott/Chino area for a Rainbow High council, and I am now inspired to look in the woods again.

I'm from out there, and you won't find Psilyocbe mushrooms in Arizona.


According to my mushroom book (it's old, and could concienably be out dated) the aforementioned Gymnopilus Spectabilis does not contain a psychoactive substance when found in the western US. The eastern version is said to be mildly psychoactive.

Also, the book mention that a spore print from a Gymnopilus closely matches that of a DEADLY Galerina. So DO NOT chance it.

You may, however, find Amanita Muscaria in the moutains of northern Arizona. I seem to recall seeing them on a trip to the Grand Canyon. The western variety is the classic Alice in Wonderland mushroom- red, with white spots.
Amanitas are NOT psyilocybin containing, but they hold a very powerful hallucenogenic drug of thier own.

Thanks Gecko. I have seen Amanita Muscaria growing out here under certain pine. They are very beautiful, but I don't think that I would like to experience Muscarine. I have checked out Erowid, and it seems like a very intense experience...I do enjoy intense experiences, but I hear that Amanitas are very unpredictable in strength, and effects. Santa Claus is an Amanita, and reindeer love em! :p
