Alright, I just got prescribed Zoloft for my anxiety... and I am a little turned-off about how I just can't drink anymore, at least for a while until my body gets used to it, but I am wondering: what are the risks of smoking weed while on Zoloft, and what about other psychedelic drugs, and I'm thinking salvia and acid.
I really don't wanna die, or worse get fucked-up for the rest of my life, so please help and don't tell me to go to erowid cause I've been there and I couldn't find any good enough answer to my questions... that is, WHAT EXACTLY WILL HAPPEN TO ME, what are the risks, possible effects, etc.

Thanks for the help!

P.S.: How long do you think I should wait before starting to drink again? And I don't drink a lot, but what about... a glass of wine, or a couple beers? Or a cocktail?

An ex used to smoke n drink on Zoloft for a year or so.
Didn't appear to be a prob on a day to day basis - still had the normal 2-4 glasses of wine/drinks, smoked on an avg of 3-5 times/week.
Not sure bout the long term medical - remember I said 'ex'...*c*

I don't think you would die, certainly not fromsmoking pot and drinking a little. A friend of mine was on anti depressants and smoking pot and thought he was hearing voices in his apartment, told his doctor and parents....

Months later he found out his neighbor had a parrot :D

I too have also wondered what exactly drinking while on Zoloft would do...i hear you're not supposed to do it, but i want to know WHY!"Zoloft (sertraline HCl) is a type of antidepressant (http://www.zoloft.com/zoloft/zoloft.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=default_home) known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It's approved to treat depression (http://www.zoloft.com/zoloft/zoloft.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=depr_treatment), social anxiety (http://www.zoloft.com/zoloft/zoloft.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=default_home) disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in adults over age 18.
...
As with many antidepressants, drinking alcohol while taking Zoloft isn't recommended. Studies have shown that Zoloft does not increase the effects of alcohol, but taking Zoloft with alcohol isn't advised."

Booze is a depressant.
It sorta defeats the purpose of the antidepressant...

People often get the meaning of "depressant" when it comes to drugs wrong. Alcohol is a CNS depressant, a Central Nervous System Depressant. What that means is that it slows down your heart rate, breathing, etc. (when people die from drinking too much alcohol it's usually because their breathing either stopped or was too slow and they die from lack of oxygen). Just because it is a CNS depressant does not mean that it will make you emotionally depressed.

My best guess as to why they don't want you to mix alcohol with zoloft (or other SSRI) is because alcohol messes with sertonin and so do the antidepressants, though i'd like to know exactly what effects are observed (not just "it isn't recommended").

Well, my roommate just said it will make me more drunk, that's all. But I should definitely wait til my body gets used to the Zoloft before starting drinking again.

Now anybody knows what the risks of taking salvia or LSD while on Zoloft are? I use these drugs and I just wanna be careful now, not end up in a coma or something...

Btw I was prescribed Zoloft for anxiety and panic not depression... and they're trying to figure out whether to give me some Xanax or hormones for my thyroid, depends on the results... yeah I'm pretty unhealthy :(

Zoloft will potentize the alcohol. You could get very drunk without meaning to. As for acid, some people claim, as Zoloft effects your seratonin uptake, that acid "doesn't work" while you are taking it. I found that not to be true. I found no difference with weed usage, maybe a little more fatigue.

But, if you are depressed, it is probably best to wait until you have the depression under control before using any recreationals. Just to make sure you get the best theraputic results from the antidepressant.

I hope you are feeling better.

I've read thru the Zoloft site (and many other similar sites).
It pretty well goes along w/my personal experiences and observations.
Yes I've had the pleasure of taking it as well as some of its competitors' products while I was still drinking n such.

FYI - I did have problems inducing anxiety attacks when med dosages were too high.
Take it easy/slow/have some patience and it'll all work out...

I don't think I would take LSD with it, I wouldn't take that at all with anxiety problems!

The Xanax for anxiety makes since but not for hypo/hyper thyroidism. I digress as it is plausible that one may administer a benzodiapine to counter secondary effects (i.e. symptoms) from an improperly functioning thyroid. SSRIs generally take a while to help so be patient. My feeling is that Zoloft is much less powerful than Xanax for anxiety--not necessarily less effective. Xanax will work the first time you take an adequate dose, unfortunately you may not tolerate the side effects, and if you take it for a long time you will very likely become dependent. Withdrawl from benzodiapines is not something to take lightly! Just something to consider.

As far as mixing Zoloft with weed or psychedelics...I can't imagine any potential dangerous interactions, but you may or may not like how it alters the experience. Combinations with alcohol are almost always the most dangerous. Zoloft may potentiate the sedating effect of alcohol, and Xanax definitely will and should be avoided. Personally I wouldn't fret about having an occasional drink or two while on Zoloft, but only ocassionaly, and then only a drink or two. Consider the long term effects on the liver too.

my lab specimens had little to no effect when researching 2c-i while being prescribed 100mg Zoloft per day - VERY disapointing - any others notice this?

You cannot take SSRI drugs and also expect the effects of psychadelic drugs, especially LSD. SSRI drugs are serotonin raising, where LSD and most psychadelics work off of serotonin. There has been a lot of experiences of people using SSRI drugs and having almost no effects when taking LSD or mushrooms.

IMO stop taking Zoloft, or at least a few days prior and having a nice fast before your trip, fasts are always best anyway..

Good luck.
