i'm taking a road trip to asheville, nc, on the suggestion of my friends that i'd really like it there...i don't know much at all about the south; i'm looking for suggestions about where to stay...what to do...places to catch music, etc. any ideas would be helpful; i'm going this week. are there good campsites around asheville, or do you recommend staying someplace else...veggie restaurants...artsy things...

camping not far from town. vegetarian food: Laughing Seed on wall street. go upstairs to Jack of the wood for a microbrew!

I's a great place, lots of music and things. Make sure you get up into the mountains. The highst point on the east coast is an hr drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway. And the Appalacian Trail is just on the east side of town.Or south of town, on the Parkway, There is a road down the mountain (Wagon Gap Road? It's mentioned in the book "Cold Mountain", wich is nearby) that passes one wterfall after another.
Enjoy!
