I was a Part of The Port Watson Project in the mid-90's consisting of a small group of Free-Thinking Individuals who tried to buy an Island in the Bahamas (in the Caribbean!) and Start an Intentional Community of Free-Thinkers, Artists, Musicians, Magicians, Actors, Actresses, Hippies, New-Aged Eco-Friendly Inventors, ect.; people like US, or more to the point US..

The law in the Bahamas at the time was, the police were prohibited from patroling privately owned Islands, and the D.E.A. was prohibited from flying over Inhabited Islands! (The laws may have changed!!)

Fortunately, My Mother, Father and I were a part of This Intentional Community Island 'Idea,' The Away Team in fact, to ensure potential investors were happy and comfy and well fed, and we lived on An Island in the Caribbean - Bahamas! - (For the most part of 1993, actually.) And it's changed my Life.. I actually felt free!

Unfortunately, The Project Ran Out of Money, we Could Not Yield Enough People's interest, Investors of Money, for the Intentional Community, the project ran out of money, and we had to come back to the states.. http://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/smilies/sad.gif ...

Many members of the Port Watson Project are Still looking for a suitable Island.. (And This IDEA, of course Long Past Due, takes LOTS of Money! And then again, there are LOTS of US "Out There," So...)

If you guys Are Serious About Buying an Island, which I'm certain that more than Half of you are - to remain free, to enjoy a healthy enlightening experience in an Eco-Friendly Enviroment of only Friends and Family ect., I'm here to say, Not Only Can It Be done, but Needs to be..

Now, from first hand experience, once the island is owned, we would all have to start from scratch, take a few months to build housing, and a community - and everything that goes along with that, blueprint ideas, water catchment, solar/electricity, (tourism) businesses, etc...

And If you Have Ever Been to Key West? That's what the Island Life/Community would/feels like, very homey in a dry warm place, the tropics... Some of US were talking, and we think an alien-runway would look sweet on the island!!!

If you're low on cash, the solar wouldn't work at all. You'd need a cheaper energy source. Unfortunatly, there aren't many of those either. The best way, looking at it from both a realistic and ideal viewpoint, is no electricity. Perhaps a few emergency batteries, bu tnothing beyond that. Also, who would you want to contact (ifyou ask for help, you're depending on the outside world, which seems to be the bain of the hippie existence). Bio sources is by far the best source of power, and could be easily obtained thru the use of burning dried kelp. Sort of. Heating for cooking is easily obtainable both thru the use of mirrors, and thru a fire. Fishing is a more viable source of food than farming, especially on an island the size of which this one would be.

Well, something I've learned, Money or No Money, Fishing and Farming, Keeping our options open on everything Is the best thing to do rather than Giving-Up and conforming to one way Or the Other; remembering that that's what this Island Is All About!! Freedom in Surround Sound! Some of Us don't have as Much Money as Others and will rely On Farming for say, room and board, or cash, until we can help them to start-up a business or two, or three of their Own!!! The Possibilities are Infinate! And these guys I'm dealing with are In the Moment, In the Now, And some of them Having Been Screwed Over by The System a time or two, having had Money realizations, Know's We All Need Money in order to sustain Ourselves in this facinating World we call Earth, in order to take care of our Families And Ourselves! Clothes, Foods, Medicines.. Some of Us are considering Creating a School And University for education, some people are teacher's, some people are doctors, ect. And Every obtainable Thought Imaginable will be taken into consideration, yes, even If that means moving 'with' the 21st Century!! Some Of Us are Scientists, and can create fuel from plant! We could then say, run a generator to shine beautiful yellow lights cast upon the beautiful swaying palm tree's, and glistening off the beauitufl pond the beautiful bridge goes over, leading to the beautiful gazeebo next to the beautiful glistening ocean; to see the beautiful Island at Night, though there Is something about Tiki Sticks about that strikes a chord! But, the project is sort of past the point of having light problems, it's under our belt, it's part of our vocabulary.. Some of Us have laid pipe-works in the ground, we need Water to drink and keep ourselves well groomed when Sadie-Hawkins rolls around, eh? ;) Some Of Us Know How to Fix Things, bam! Get paid for that! (Hey If the DeadHead's could sustain a Life on the road, Then We can too!)
