San Francisco area.....

Hey people. I have a little problem. I bought a plane ticket to fly into San Francisco the third week of march with the intentions to stay in San Jose with a frien for the week. Well i recently discovered that she leads a completely different life then i care to be a part of for any period of time. I am looking to stay in San Francisco for a few days before i go and visit another friend in Ashland,OR (if possible). So my question is does anyone know of any cheap places to stay in San Francisco area? My money situation is tight so i cannot even afford to stay at some average place. below average motels will suffice. so any help would be great. thank you

yes! yes! the green tortoise hostel, on broadway...man that place was AWESOME! i just got back from there! it's $20 a night.

and, not that i'm totally positive, but i think ashland, OR is a FAR way to travel if you've only got a week. for real. san francisco has SO much to offer for a 1 week visit. the weather'll be nice then, and you really can get by spending little money (i shit you not, i had all but $100 spending money for the week, and got by just FINE!)

i really mean it - the Green Tortoise was excellent - clean and FUN!!!!
(if you can't tell, i had an excellent time there!)
