but back on subject, go to the library and ask them to help you find things on hippies or the counter culture. i have found librarians really do want to help and are good at finding stuff you wouldnt. theres a book too, Hippies. i forget who its by but you can get it at one of those big book store places. its got a lot of info but is super expensive, you might be able to find it cheaper if you look around some.

Hippies were NOT the only segment of the counterculture, just the most flamboyant.
Lots of great books on library shelves look em up. 900s on Dewey.

If I'm right the book "Hippies" is written by Barry Miles. It contains a lot of information and photos. I can recommend it. Collect photos of the time. They are one of my favorite sources in history. And don't forget the souveniers of your mom and dad ;)

The forerunner to the Hippies were the 'Beatniks' whose identities were forged in San Francisco in the late 1950s.Ginsberg,Kerouac,Cassady,Burroughs etc.They formed a new movement for free living & rebelled against the mores & virtues of middle-class America.The stereotyped image was of: 'long-haired' bohemians who met in coffee bars to recite poetry & play the bongos.The men wore black berets,goatee beards,vertical striped jumpers & granny specs.The women were tight slacks & baggy jumpers with horn-rimmed glasses.They all listened to modern Jazz.They were parodied ruthlessly in the press & for example: 'Playboy' magazine.They originated in Greenwich Village in New York but spread to the east & west sides.
From this came 'The Hippies' in the early 1960s.Apparently a San Francisco Disc Jockey invented the term.The Hippies delevoped the counter-culture throughout the sixties.An example of early Hippie activity was the San Francisco 'Golden Gate Park- Human Be-In' of January 1967.Symbolically - the main speaker was the 'howl' man himself ,the prophet: Allen Ginsberg.
