In the old forum there was a thread where users could submit new images to be used as avatars. Is there still a thread somewhere like that?

Does it still need to be transparent, or doesn't that matter any more? Are gifs still required, or are other image formats such as jpg possible in this new system?

40x40 to 72x72 is the size most around 60x60. Mine is 50x50. They do still have to have to be transparent to be considered as an 'official' avatart.
.GIF, .JPG and i believe .PNG are allowed. There is a maxiumum file size too but I dont exactly remember it...the 'lightest' file size it will display in is recommended though.
If you are a Site Supporter (Subscribe/Donate! (http://hipforums.com/forums/eservices.php)) you can upload Avatars and change it as you like.

We should be able to use our own images for our own avatars. Even if they have to be approved by the hip forums people... It's awful having to use a Water Pixie in order to not have the same avatar as someone else. Letting people create and use their own avatars will make this place nicer.

We already can. Like Juggalo said. One must be a "Supporter" to do that though. Donate to the site. Then you can upload and use your own. As long as they fit the criteria for size and type.

Talking of custom avatars, why am I not allowed one.
I was under the impression that reaching over a 1000
posts this became available, or are there other factors
going on.?
Seems a shame as I can make personalised animmated
avatars and signatures with ease.
Oh well.
can you add charlotte's av's? pretty please!

You must be a site supporter to get a custom avatar, and a personal forum, and a journal, and more storage etc.

As much as I would like to become a supporter, there is no provision to do so for people like me, who prefer not to be plugged into the "system".
I've never had a credit card or bank account in my life. Never will.
Would you consider allowing people to pay by money order?
I got money. If you want it, you'll have to consider my offer. Otherwise, I'm stuck without a decent avatar and you're stuck with less support than you could have.
Please consider my suggestion.

Become a paid member of the forum (only 15 dollars) and roll your own.
I did. (Although my first avatar was causing migraines, seizures, and malcontent)

The truth is that paying 15 dollars to have a feature that is almost a NECESSITY for any free forum is ridiculous.
In fact, individuality is not very appreciated here it seems. We have to use the same bank of horrible avatar images, and we aren't allowed to have links in signatures - there's a difference between SPAM and good-natured promotion. :/ Seriously...
About that avatars, though. It seems more often than not that users associate a username with its avatar rather than a signature, seeing as a signature is usually changed more. It's harder to recognize familiar users when they all have the same few avatars. I've noticed that the ONLY people I can actually recognize here and throughout the forums are the guy with the post above me and.... well, that's about it.
