TongLen is a meditation done in conjunction with one's breathing, and in relation to one's parents, friends and enemies, to all beings gathered around oneself. As one breathes out, imagine that with the exhalation out goes all one's happiness and all the causes of happiness, all the good karma that one has, in the form of white light rays. These light rays go out to all beings to touch them, so that they obtain present temporary happiness and the cause for the ultimate happiness of buddhahood.

With inhalation one imagines that all the suffering, the causes of suffering and the bad karma that beings have are drawn into oneself with the incoming breath, in the form of black light rays. These black rays enter and merge into oneself, so one thinks that one has taken on the suffering of all other beings. Thus this Sending & Taking meditation involves giving away happiness and taking on suffering, in combination with one's breathing.

IT is so weird, I have been playing with this for the last couple weeks and it just hit me, all this time I have been doing it ass backwards. As I say the words I so want to inhale deep breaths of Happiness and exhale the Bad from inside of me. All this time I have been so frustrated and now as I inhale the darkness my lungs finaly feel full. As I let go of the Light more builds.

Wow, what a difference it makes when you do things the right way:&

Finaly, sheesh:p

Don't you feel so much more invigorated? I feel like my guard or 'container' is melting away. If all the bad is suposed to come and be filtered in anyway, why waste so much energy fending it off....and more wasted energy keeping the good energy in!

Wow. No wonder I was so tired.

Careful with those batteries :p

I hope she is in, too.... I want to look around a bit, the place has come up a few times over the last year....

Nice filter feeder:)

Here's the pm nick sent out for next fridays dharma talk:

Hi Everyone,
Want to pass on the teaching that Ani Rene is going to give in the upcoming Dharma talk Jan 6th @ St Peters.
In her own words:
Tonglen is a practice for developing "All-embracing Compassion". "Tong means "sending out" or "letting go," and len means "receiving," or "accepting." Tonglen is often referred to as a practice of sending and taking. It is a very important practice for cutting through self-absorption and selfishness. By doing so "we naturally feel more alive; more loving and caring, both for ourselves and others. By practicing Tonglen, we connect with a less defended and more open, spacious dimension of our being."
I don't know about you, but this sounds like a great way to start the New Year!!!!!!

Also want to wish you all everything you need to grow in your practice in the New Year!!!!

Peace be With You!!!!!!
Nick Edge

It's funny to go back and read it again and to see how my realisation alignes. There really is something more out there that connects us all.

Oh yeah there is... :)

Nick Edge is a cool name too.....LoL

Taking in the cloudy sending out the pure... looks like another microcosm/macrocosm fractal.....

I think as long as we ground ourselves, and let all the negativity flow into the earth, we're ok.....

Nice to share this wavelength with you:)

When I get really mad...it helps to do the breathing thing because I have to think so hard about breathing the right way with the right breath and it feels so good, after about five I forget to be mad.
heehee got to used it tonight alot of oxygen to the brain is a good thing too:)

Mutual, I'm Shooowah

Don't get mad... Hyperventilate!
... yeah it's amazing how focusing on something can change a mood or detach an emotion....

Focusing can also change your body temp, wonder what else it can do?

It can make you lighter... when you're walking along, focus on lifting your feet off the ground, rather than stepping downward.. :D

There is magic in the air. :)

Allowing yourself to be breathed...

ps: walking heel to toe
stimulates the bubbling spring;
surging rolling earth-energy rises
to mix in with celestial inhales
of violet pole-star light. :p

the breath and emotion are intimately connected. emotion controls breath and breath controls emotion. a two way street.
