sweet sixteen is the worst, and i hope the children of next generation arent getting influenced to act like that when they grow up...

yeah it is sad really. but i find it really entertaining. watching how empty and meaningless rich kids' lives are make me so happy I'm poor.

ok seriously...i find that mtv glorifies a little too much what people think of the 'high life' you know, being rich and spoilt. It easy to want what others have, but then people can only dream of being that rich. Cribs is another good example. I often find myself feeling really annoyed that some idiot with a single top ten hit lives in a fucking mansion and baths their dog in champagne. People have to work hard to have a roof over their heads...aspiring to a life of luxury just promotes mind numbeness anyway i'm feeling cranky

MTV is disgusting, and "Sweet Sixteen" or whatever it's called is by far their worst show. I would never let my child watch that kind of garbage. Well, hell, if I had kids, I wouldn't even own a fucking television.

You're all right about television networks promoting some kind of rich lifestyle. Honestly, they work to beat it into kids' minds continuously. I really don't get it. If you flip on MTV, or even more so VH1, you're bound to see some kind of focus on the rich and their luxuries. It's ridiculous, and I just wish that more people could spot these networks' pointlessness.

Ugh, I'm just making myself mad. Fuck television. :D

i dont think i would own a tv if i had a child to...i think i would actually move to somewhere out in the country or a small little community where my child can grow up near nice children and have a happy childhood, instead of having a bunch of braty peers and hooligans as classmates...i just know my elementry school experience sucked complete ass

Okay, but are you going to shelter the kid for his whole childhood? I mean, I don't know... I think (and I'm speaking here with absolutely no parenting experience :D :D) that it would be best to simply teach your child what's right instead of creating some idealized environment for them to live in and learn from. You can't save them from everything, anyway.

i wouldnt either. I grew up with two channels sometimes three. And they all sucked. I don't think I'd make my kid(s) play music if they didn't want to, but I'd certainly offer it all the time. And I'd start them off with a healthy dose of Beatles, Dylan, Beach Boys, and the like, at the time of birth. :D

yeah. as much as i would like to raise my children (when i have some) the way i want such as my beleifs and music and stuff, i guess i am gonna want them to still have a small part in their own generation. i think isolating them completly isnt the way to go because i want them to have an idea of whats going on.
but still, if they are going to have my genes, then hopefully they will figure out for themselves that they are growing up in a messed up world

yeah, thats exactly what my parents did to me. we always had money, but they never just gave me something cause i wanted it.
like this year, i started guitar and even though they encouraged me and were glad that i loved it so much, they made me save up money for the electric.

i reckon things are so much better when you actually earn it

Yeah, MTV is VERY focused on materialism whether it be having all the right clothes for your "look" (but you have to buy them at AE if you are preppy, or Hot Topic if you are... well... anything else), having an expensive car, having rich parents and all that garbage... But it is an early way of influencing kids to live up to the American Dream...

I want to raise my kids on little to no television... I try not to watch a lot of it myself but there are a few great shows like M*A*S*H that I would deffinately expose my kids to. Music is mentally stimulateing. Reading is as well. Television is written on a 4th grade level (or so I have heard). The internet is also communicative and can be mentally stimulating...

Bottom line: MTV=Evil cooperate giant from the bowels of Hell...

i dont care what mtv shows, i just wish it had more to do with music...its very decevicing when a channel calls itself a music video channel when they rarely play music videos, and when they do its just not very good...in my opinion...

at least with shows like bevis and butthead, they incorporated videos into the show :D

here in canada we get much music, and, because of canadian content regulations, can only show a few american shows on the station. i think you can get mtv by satellite but my parents wont pay for the dish.
