People are very wasteful in America. Luckily for me, some have never learned to fix something that's broken and only needs minor repair. Over the yrs my family has gotten TV's, bikes, lots of kids toys, tons of clothes & shoes, enough books for a library, toaster, blender, pots & pans, kids school desk, and once even a computer.

when kids go home from college is the best time...they throw away all the good stuff they bought with daddy's hard earned cash... like sound equipment, tvs, and computers, even the desk and bed.
Talk about wastefull America.

No, they're not kidding. My parents have been using me to go dumpster diving since I was a small child. They'd stick me in there and say "Nathan, go get that lamp!"
lol
Good ol' times.
And, don't think I'm kidding.

^^^not really.
I've found porn, an old 60's stereo cabnet, a guitar cab(it did'nt work), and my most prized possesion, a trs-80. Yes, I kick that much ass. It was totally fine too, a little dusty. The resest button was stuck down, so it would'nt start. Christ, some people are so stupid. I've found alot of office crap, computers, cables, printers. They pretty much just rip the hard drive out and chuck everything in the trash. You're really supposed to recycle it toohttp://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/smilies/sad.gif
Bowling Ball, 200+records, and when a bowling alley got refurbished I got furniture for the whole basment.

Yea, I go around to each dumpster near the dorms when people are moving out and I got all kinds of goodies. Here's an interesting article about dumpster diving...

I used to love driving around town early in the morning on trash day...found a beautiful arimoire that we turned into an entertainment center. And later sold for 300.00.
I found an old chinese porclien lamp with a carved metal fish bottom.
Tons of dishes, pictures in frames, a mink stole I sold for 50.00,loads of books...the list goes way on.
My most memorible find was a hand grenade, my roomate called the police to see about disposing of it because it weighed about 3 lbs and we were concerned to just throw it back away...the bomb squad showed up at our house...huge embarrassment when it was found to be empty.
I don't dive into dumpsters behind food places but at a carpet store in town we found a bunch of brand new clean pieces that where very large.
When I was in L.A back in '71 I found a big bag of leather scraps behind some stores...all different colors..made some great patches for lots of jeans.
I believe we owe it to our planet to try and reuse and recycle as much as possible....I also shop in thrift stores all the time.
Throw away society is a disgrace...

its just gross to dig things out of garbages/dumpsters.Your gross. On these boards you have such a negative and critical attitude. Every time I see your post it is you putting negative babylon energy.
Dumpster diving is amazing!!!!!!!! I have found unopened bottles of Organic Extra Virigin Olive Oil, and Sesame Oil. Loads of delicious fruits and vegetables. I always score on organic vine tomatoes, potatoes sometimes organic, bell peppers, lettuce, cabbages, watermelon, oranges, pineapple, and more. Completely packaged, french bread, cookies, cakes, cheetos, fritos, you name it. Its not like they are sitting in shit. Alot of the produce is in a produce bag or boxes. Breads are in a bags all sealed in clean. You can find amazing things!

its just gross to dig things out of garbages/dumpsters.Cherry,you crack me up girl....I read your post about being gross...then at the bottom there's a thingy eating boogers!!!!!!...lol
I think its gross...gross negligence...that society is so wasteful.
When we need something around here we go to a thrift store first if we can....sad that its only about 1 time a month 'cause we're so far out.
Or we make it ourselves if we can. Or we try to trade with someone for goods or service, this is a true aspect of living hip...it is hard on this planet when we use up any resources not to metion our pockets.
Things are made so cheaply now because alot of people do not demand quality, they buy, buy, buy then throw it all away and buy more....some people even look at relationships this way because it has become so ingrained.
Big business greed is based on consumerism...look at the crap they try to sell you.
People even think its cool to get a new car every 2 years...and to wear 100.00 tennis shoes...I have far more important things to do with my money...
Thrift stores and dumpsters, dumps, trash at the curb and flea markets, garage sales etc....RULE!!!
