I am a history buff and me and my dad were having a conversation tonight about Mccarthys witch hunts....I thought this would make an interesting topic.....basically for those of you who do not know who mccarthy was...he was senator back in the 40's and 50's I believe it was, who found a communist everywhere he went....a ver extreme right wing who ended up really hurting the whole anti-communist community...as well as destroying many peoples careers.......

Actualy, I beleive that McCarthy found no communists. He used the red scare to push his career, but wasn't very good at finding commies.

Nixon, HUAC and other red baiters found some communinsts. Most signed up in the 30's. Only a few were Soviet agents.

The communist Woodie Guthrie wrote "This Land is your land" to inspire the movement. Rememer that the next time you attend a Republican sing along.

Oh on that I am of no doubt that he used communism to try and eliminate any prominent libreal who stood in his way, and he could branned anyone remotley progressive as a commie. People like him set the socialist movement in america back decades.

The bitch of the whole thing is that being a communist, or a member of any political party, is a right specifically protected by the Constitution. What McCarthy and Hoover were doing was more un-American than anything else.

What's really interesting is looking at old newspapers from the time. My school library has mircrofilm of the New York times from when it started to 1999. I love looking thru these old newpapers- 1953 is the year I'm reading about right now. It's really odd to read a newspaper where a senator is mentioned more than the president.

don't forget mccarren, brought nevada a lot of pork home so he's deified, but he was racist, sexist, basicly he hated anyone who wasn't rich, white, male and republican.....

You might also find interesting Walt Kelly's comic strip, Pogo, sort of the Doonesberry of it's day, featureing Senator Simple J. Malarkey, and a couple of Communist Cowbirds...

Hell probably 1/2 of those accused actually WERE Communists!!! McCarthy's so called 'witch hunts' were never allowed to take place! Read the Venona files, McCarthy is a damn hero.

You've got to be kidding. Have you ever read a history book? He ruined a lot of people's lives for a 50% (yeah, fucking right. Not even close to that high) accuracy level, and the alleged 50% of the people who were accurately accused still did absolutely nothing illegal. That makes him a hero?

Out of curiousity, who else do you worship?

i was a kid during the mc carthy period and remember actors being black listed. i recently saw a documentary on mc carthy on the history channel and it said that his whole hatred of communism was really a scapegoat for getting even with hollywood. he wanted to be an actor, and he was a bad actor, and when he couldn't get work he went into politics and used his power to get even with hollywood and the actors at that time. he was an insane and angry man who did so much damage at that time.
angel
may he be in hell right now, getting back 100 times worse the evil he did on earth

McCarthy was right. That's why he was demonised by the establishment, and apparently still is today.

THE US HELPED CREATE COMMUNISM, FOLKS! But don't expect to read that in your college history books.

The same people behind capitalism are the same people behind communism. The Illuminati control ALL sides, and communism, like capitalism, is their creation. The Global Elite funded Trotsky and the Bolshevik Revolution, and they also put Mao into power.

People like Marx, Lenin and Trotsky were merely tools (knowingly or unknowingly) of the Elite.

Communism has long been a tool used to dupe the people of the world into placing all their rights and liberties into the hands of an all-powerful government. Has this ever worked in favor of the people?

Please wake up.

He may have been a quasi-socialist but was by no means a communist. Then again Pete Seager was accused of being a communist as well.

"My land I'll defend with my life need it be. Yes my pastures of plenty must allways be free". Taken from the song Green Pastures of Plenty.

McCarthy was just a shameless, self promoting Facist who wrapped himself in the American flag in order to project a semblance of patriotism.
